resolving the issues with my wc setup will take time and money - neither of which i have enough of at the moment :( i would actually recommend the AMB over the BQE now given the extensive mods i've had to do to the BQE (cut out fan grills, mod psu, etc). plus i might be drilling out the hdd cage si...

slimeballzz: cutting the fan grills made a significant difference, as i said above.. 3-4c temperature drop for cpu, hdd and case temps. the honeycomb grill seems less restrictive because it has more 'open area', but i think it is still fundamentally flawed. air that does make it through is going to...

I just tested my 92 acousti and papst.. (acousti modded with no temp probe) at full speed 12v 2000rpm the papst has a mechanical sound, where as the acousti is alot nicer to listen to.. at 5v they both doesnt really make any noise, i have to stick my big fat head down to the fan to hear it. this is...

Oh I see. Antec Phantom? Yeah that looks awesome although it will cost. I think I'd wait for it to come out see how it does and maybe wait for a 400+W version of it. I mentioned this in the PSU section, but Antec is planning a 420w, 500w, and 700w versions. Anything higher than the 350w model will ...

zuperdee, cutting out the fan grill is a trivial process :) unless of course you want to have a perfectly round finish. after i cut mine, i taped up the raw edges with sticky tape and you really can't cut yourself on it anymore. with a little bit of fanhole moulding it'd look close to perfect. Is c...

I spent around $65 for my enclosure. I REALLY don't like noise. Right now, the loudest component in my system is the 400w SS, and I plan on getting an Antec Phantom if it gets a good review. I really feel that the Samsung is quiet enough already, so the enclosure cuts out a little more of the high ...

If I did use the sorbathane mod that would mean that the hard drive wouldn't be held by anything right? What enclosure do you have to keep your hard drive in? That's a good idea but I have two Hitachi 7K250 80GB hard drives on the way so I don't think I can do what you did. For a two hard drive set...

definitely. time for an spcr roundup: panaflo 120L vs papst 4412fgl vs acoustifan 120mm. my money's on the acoustifan :) Yeah I'm going for Panaflo thanks to their hydrowave bearings. But they should do a roundup on the three major size variations: 80, 90, and 120mm That would be something many peo...

All of the AMB models are that same dark grey color. Yeah just found that out ealier in another post. Though my thread question still hasn't came to a final answer :? I think there should be a review on a roundup of some of these fans and other major well known fans for the best noise/cfm ratio and...

So are you saying the 3700AMB I find at regular computer stores such as say Newegg the exact same color as the one on the review here at silentpcreivews? Yeah. Usually when a company sends something out for review, it's from the final, finished revision of said product. The color is EXACTLY the sam...

Re: 3700BQE observations

Well I have been looking for the SLK3700AMB in the metallic gray color but I never found one and was wondering if you have any idea where I can get the exact same case you have? Ever consider selling your case Ralf? I've seen dozens of 3700AMBs and they're all the exact same shade of medium ...

Er, the 3700AMB IS gray... with a slight tinge of Bronze. I think the picture is a little too bright to accurately reflect the color of the case. The case really does look gray unless you are paying VERY close attention. So are you saying the 3700AMB I find at regular computer stores such as say Ne...

Re: 3700BQE observations

Yes, I did. I mounted the Sorbothane strips so they weren't touching the sides of the drive sled at all. In my prior attemps of dampening the vibrations with foam I noticed that wedging foam between the sides of the drive and the walls of the drive sled made the resonance worse, if anything. So whe...

a 120mm fan just to cool the hard drives is definitely overkill. a 92 or even an 80 would suffice. back when i first got my BQE, i had a panaflo 80L on the front to cool down the hard drives and it did so by about 3c. when i put a 120mm fan there, the hdd temps went back up to normal as if there wa...

u can probably scratch the front case fan, in the antec 3700's they do next to nothing apart from cool down the hard drives.
Yeah I'm waiting for a pair of Hitachi 7K250 80GB hard drives and planning to use the fan on them... think it's necessary?

from what i've read, the acoustifans are better fans but aren't worth the price premium. i say this without any proof or justification. :) but i have to ask: why do you need to buy 4-5 fans?? i hope they're not all for the same computer :) if they are, then you probably have some airflow problems t...

AcoustiFans better then Papst and Panaflo?

Ok I'm looking into purchasing probably three 120mm fans, at least one 92mm fan, and MAYBE a 80mm fan.

I'm wondering if AcoustiFans are actually better than Papst and Panaflo in terms of noise and CFM ratio?

Maybe someone who has all three types of fans can let me know their experience.

Thanks!

Re: 3700BQE observations

So tried repositioning the sorbothane strips so they were a few mm away from the sides of the drive tray and remounted the drives. Success, no more drive resonance. Wondered if anybody else had come across this? Yes, I did. I mounted the Sorbothane strips so they weren't touching the sides of the d...
