Re: Temps 55C at full load? Meh... I wouldn't worry about it. I think processors will handle much higher temps than most folks are comfortable with; and everyone has different comfort levels. If you're still in the 50s though, shouldn't be a problem. Not a direct comparison, but I run my 2600Athlon ...
And I would say that a good cablegami setup with flat cables can look better than a setup with round cables flopping around. My own cablegami work , and I've done better since then. If you are going to use rounded cables, I would trust some of the better quality ones than something custom and homebu...
To me, a better question would be: What are you running in the PCI area that is hot enough to require more airflow? Also, what is your current setup for intake and exhaust fans in the case? How many, what size, where are they? What cooler are you currently running on the video card? How many PCI slo...
Anyone seen a solution that can power down a HD that isn't in use? An inline power switch. And the Search page. This has been discussed many, many times. I don't think it has really had a good solution presented, especially on the Windows side. If anything, I seem to remember that Linux might handl...
I'm back! (again (for awhile)) http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=34693 Been funking about with my main system (XP-M o/c to 2.2ghz), but its up and going again to keep my little P3-566 company. Might even manage to get my 1700XP going again. If I don't first smash the durn ...
I don't know my Panaflo model numbers too well anymore, but it could also be a two wire fan that has a three wire lead on it. I've run into a couple of those on the standard Panaflo L1A.
I can't understand how a passive cooler that keeps the VGA at 55c idle would dump the same amount of heat inside the case as a active cooler that keeps the VGA at 37c. *confused* What you're confusing is heat and temperature. The video card will maintain a constant (relatively) amount of heat outpu...
Hmm... for me the style depends which car I'm driving. In my daily car, an '89 Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo hatchback, my hands are almost always at 10-2 or 9-3. And if I do need to turn sharp, it will be done with the shuffling motion, I can't stand crossing my hands/arms when turning. The two exception...
There is also the severely debilitating side effect that once you have gotten used to silence; you find it very difficult to work with other people’s noisy computers! To me, that's probably the worst part of it. I used to enjoy working on systems for friends and family, now I avoid it as much as po...
Someone sent me an email on this, got it fixed now. Had the wrong number on my littel P3-566 backup system. Hardly ever put the monitor on it, wouldn't have known for awhile.
I'm going again. Kinda. Got a main system that's a 2600 mobile running at 2.2ghz. Its Folding whenever I'm not playing EverQuest2. ;) I underclocked my server (1.4 down to 900) and decided not to have it Fold anymore. And I have a 1.4 system that is currently down with hardware problems, but once it...
Try disconnecting the IDE cable from the drive and see what it does. Then it will only be powering on and not part of the BIOS bootup sequence. I'd guess that it will still make the same noises, its part of the powerup sequence for that drive.
There appear to be two potential problems. The GPU seems too far back. If that's the only problem, I think an aerocool heatpipe sink might fit, and if not you might be able to saw it down so it does. And the mounting holes might be rotated. If that's the problem, maybe a zalman might fit on rotated...
OK, save that discussion for elsewhere, how about back to the original question. I too am looking at the 6600GT AGP and am wondering what, if any, aftermarket coolers will work on it. I would like to see an Arctic Cooler version, but that might be awhile. The Zalman might be a workable option, wonde...
I generally don't see much of a need for a grille on an exhaust fan. Not like you'll cut your fingers as you can from the front of a fan. (darn Panaflo blades are sharp, trust me on this one)
Since this has come back again, thought I'd toss in an update. It really doesn't seem like it was way back in January that I changed over. But then it also seems like I've always been typing with this layout. Weird. Just visited my favorite TypingTest.com the other day, outta the blue. Managed a 54w...
For the video card, let me show you what I did with my ti4200. The Zalman ZM17-CU works just fine. Its fanless, and gets rather toasty, but I was able to do endless loops of 3DMark with no problems. I then bent the fins out for looks and a wee bit extra cooling. ZM17-CU mounted on my ti4200 - origin...
Finally cooling off enough around here that I can stand having 3 AMDs at full tilt. Ended up not building the dually AMD that I had parts for, lost interest and needed the $$ for other stuff. I'll probably level out somewhere around 1500-2500ppw, depends on the WUs.
Welp, swapped out for a better heatsink in my server tonight, and went for the undervolting. It wouldn't boot at 850mhz, so 900 is where its at. Took the vcore all the way down to 1.1v, wouldn't boot. But it would at 1.125v, and get into Server2003. Currently doing Prime95 test. Kinda neat to have 1...
