best fans for personal cooling summer
a good fan pushes lots of air quietly for personal cooling in summer i own a windmere and honeywell that i think i got from walmart or target i definitely recommend windmere 16" stand up fan it cools quietly yet pushes lots of air i don't recommend the honeywell bc it is very noisy and doesn't push ...

Re: Is low voltage DDR4 and heatsink helpful for silence
if i could click like on your post i would lol. i actually have a usb 2.0 card with 4 parts, very small. the reason for pci ssd is speed, though i imagine they run hot. the thermalright solutions also look good. dual chamber isn't a must, but it seems to me to be a good way to isolate heat from PSU ...

Re: Is low voltage DDR4 and heatsink helpful for silence
shame this forum doesn't allow thanks, i would click like post yeah nofan allow memory heat spreaders, but i was thinking of the heat sinks on some sites, with the fins on top. i wasn't thinking so much a video card, as i would prefer cpu+gpu APU solution, one that can hopefully drive 4k if not 8k d...

Re: Is low voltage DDR4 and heatsink helpful for silence
They're not that much of a big deal really for actual cooling. They're often not even in good thermal contact with the chips. They are a major marketing tool however, making a very generic looking product (chips on a PCB) have some kind of visual USP. Really tall ramsinks are particularly silly. St...

Could AMD or Intel cool cpu with FD-SOI ?
i know both IBM and AMD used to use FD-SOI
Intel now uses FinFet
is there a reason AMD doesn't currently use FD-SOI
could they cool their CPU using FD-SOI ?
or Intel, which uses FinFet on Bulk?
also can FD-SOI be combined with FinFet?
how much power saving using FD-SOI ?

Re: ryzen 4 cores vs 8 cores silence
I think you might be overthinking it too much, an AMD Apu / Ryzen3 will be much easier to cool, you might be fine with something like steacom and hdplex, they offer pretty good passive cooling cases more oriented for htpc, I feel the PC you are building will work out fine on those cases. i agree wi...

Re: ryzen 4 cores vs 8 cores silence
i'm sure when that happens the fanless cpu will come out with new mounts. Im not too sure of that, honestly imo it seems they are more on the way out. Their coolers have become harder to get and more expensive over time. When i bought my NoFan95C was $99, now they are $135 and not many sell them, s...

Re: ryzen 4 cores vs 8 cores silence
1- let me use first two pci slots Yes, the HR22 or LeGrandMacho, is asymetrical (not centered) so its will not overlap with the PCIe slots. But remember, the it doesnt have AM4 mount, you need to contact thermalright to ask for it. 2- use memory that have heat sinks on it? Yes, the cooler installs ...

Is low voltage DDR4 and heatsink helpful for silence
there's no separate forum for cooling DDR4 memory silently is it actually sold anywhere i've seen it mentioned on wiki but not seen it on amazon or newegg Although a low-voltage standard has yet to be finalized (as of August 2014), it is anticipated that low-voltage DDR4 will run at a voltage of 1.0...

ive never heard of the macho grande what do you think of it Its a good cooler, one of the best, but so are many coolers now a days. If you wish to read more check SPCR Thermalright HR-22 CPU Heatsink review , its practically the same cooler as LeGrandMacho (slight modifications). hi, well does that...

do you get by better with 4 cores /8 or 8 cores /16 threads That question is for you to answer, really depends on what are you going to do with it, if your software will make use of the 8 cores / 16 threads then that will be better, if not then why spend more on something that you will not use? the...

Re: ryzen 4 cores vs 8 cores silence
An intel i7 can idle close to 15W at 800mhz with not much else running (on windows), but it can jump close to 150W on load using all threads and cores, that not overclocked. To keep below 65W you are looking into a serverly underclocked and undervolted i7 or something like a pentium/i3. My i7 4770K...

ryzen 4 cores vs 8 cores silence
AMD ryzen 8 cores are affordable. both intel and amd sell 4 cores issue here is silence and performance My motherboard, Gigabyte B350-Gaming-3, does indeed support underclocking. Not sure about undervolting though. I think a CPU with fewer (than eight) cores running at higher speed will generally pe...

Re: is ecc memory worth for stability
Typically modern motherboards use DDR4 memory so you would probably be looking at something like this . But even so the issue I think is not the cost but whether there is any practical benefit in using it in a desktop system where the main factor for most people is lack of Windows support. This may...

Re: are CPU/GPU cooler than CPU + GPU
is it possible to get ryzen 8 core to say 35 watts? As long as it sits (near) idle, no sweat! With serious underclocking and som undervolting possibly even under load... seagate sells z-height 7mm 2tb 2.5" hard drives, either 1 or 2 platter there are several 3tb 2.5" notebook drives but all are z-height 15mm, presumably 3-platter or more iirc ps4 only accepts z-height 9mm or less, so 15mm too thick many laptops only accept 9mm in name of quietness and compatibility ...

Re: are CPU/GPU cooler than CPU + GPU
So, here's the thought experiment: with 1 fan being quieter than 2, if the CPU heatsink and case can handle it, then this would be quieter. Or, with separate devices, you could have more heatsink surface area - you might be able to go passive. It comes down to the case and the rest of the system. i...

are CPU/GPU cooler than CPU + GPU
in terms of lower power draw and quietness and how much fans needed for cooling is it better to have a CPU+GPU single chip that say draws 65 watts and cool that or say a CPU that draws 35 watts and a separate add-on GPU that draws say 35 watts, if such GPU cards exist, in driving a 4k display person...
