Re: Successful phpbb upgrade
[quote="Jay_S"]Since the phpbb upgrade, urls I type in posts no longer open in a new tab/browser.[/quote] That's default behaviour of phpBB3. Don't think there's an option in the administrative pages to open links/pics/etc in a second window/tab. Maybe there's a MOD for it, but I wouldn't recommend ...

HTPC high power usage when OFF
Out of curiosity I've put a power meter between the power cord of my new HTPC & the power outlet. I know computers still consume some electricity when they're powered down, that's why I always put a power switch on the outlet. When the computer's off, I simply push the button reducing power consumpt...

Re: Successful phpbb upgrade
If I'm not mistaken you can tweak the captcha settings further, so recognizing the characters gets more difficult for spambots. I used to have over 20 new spammers a week on my own small phpBB 2.x forum a couple of years back. Since I switched to v3.0 I think I've only had 10 spam registrations in o...

Re: Successful phpbb upgrade
And I also notice some bugs with the tagging. I notice quotes and url tags (might be more) aren't always parsed. Don't know if you've changed some options, but URLs seem to get parsed in the meantime. I also found why tags didn't get parsed in the signatures. Simple: in the signature options BBCode...

Re: looking for a silent Blu-Ray ROM
I've been using that Lite-on drive for a while now and I'm very pleased about it. It's not noisy at all. I have to go very very close to the HTPC to be able to hear it, but in practice that won't be the case at all as there will always be enough ambiant noise to muffle the ODD. BTW: Nero DriveSpeed ...

Re: Successful phpbb upgrade
I dislike this forum layout as well. I run a phpBB3 forum myself and I've set theme subsilver2 as a default. Users can also choose to select prosilver as their preference (which is the current one I believe) if they really want to. And I also notice some bugs with the tagging. I notice quotes and ur...

[quote="Freeco"]Just wondering what the color of the power LED on the GD04 case is, and if it's just on, or blinking for HDD/ODD drive activity? There's 1 thing that annoys us more than fan noise while watching movies, and that's one of those bright blue (blinking) LEDs near the screen. (I could off...

on my PC I don't use that much actually: SSD 80GB: * OS partition with apps is about 17GB * temp partition is regularly cleaned up: couple of 100 MB's WD Green 1TB: just used for saving temp downloads, RAW pictures still to be treated in Lightroom etc. There's about 30GB of data stored on that drive...

Nope, don't think so. On the Belgian Logitech site there's only a the regular diNovo keyboard for Mac, without a touchpad. So if I could get my hands an a diNovo Edge for Mac, it would probably be a regular qwerty. Thanks for the tip though :) By the way, I've just ordered the Crucial C300 64GB from...

I have about enough of reading wireless keyboard reviews of various models over and over again, and always hearing every time I've found a pretty good one that it's not available with an azerty layout  If I don't get some positive feedback from some manufacturers I've sent mails to, I will be ...

well, in the meantime I have my eye on the Lite-On IHOS104 . I don't have any facts about the noise it makes, but somebody pointed me to the general Lite-On feature called Smart-X: it slows the speed down to what the application needs. (could be other brands have a similar feature though) But as you...

This afternoon I realised there's 1 'major' flaw in the parts I've come up with so far. Well, 'major': not for me, but for my wife... I'm not that sure if I can get a hold of that Enermax wireless keyboard/trackball with an azerty key layout. Qwerty is a bit ackward for me, but I can manage, but my ...

Comparing SSD's is tough :) I've read some reviews on the Crucial C300 64GB drive: it exceeds my current Intel X25-M 80GB in most read tests, and is on par with a lot of write test. As the X25-V 40GB model performs less compared to the 80GB (half the NAND chips onboard), the difference with the C300...

Somebody told me all Lite-on drives have a feature called Smart-X: the drive slows down its speed depending on the needs of the application. So for reading DVD/BR video it should spin relatively slow and quiet. So this might shift my preference to the Lite-On IHOS104 . That's even the cheapest drive...

I have that Vantec, as well as a colleague of mine. He had no problem at all with it using eSATA, but mine wasn't always detected by Windows. This could be caused by the different eSATA controller on our motherboards. I had at that time a midrange Asus board, and he had a high-end gaming motherboard...

looking for a silent Blu-Ray ROM
It seems ODD noise is very often forgotten in all reviews around the web. I'm looking for a silent Blu-Ray ROM to install in a HTPC. Read speeds and access times aren't that important to me compared to read quality and operational spin noise. Is there an owner around here of a recent & silent Blu-Ra...

Thanks for the reminder on the Silverstone GD04 Jamie. I've read that review once but forgot about this case. If I choose this case it would be around €40 more expensive compared to the Antec case as I'd have to buy a seperate PSU (probably a Nexus Value 430 (=modular)) But the GD04 might have 1 i...

The Fusion Remote is more expensive then the 2480 while it doesn't include a PSU. Throw in a PSU and I'd pay double for that case. I don't need the remote (will use a wireless keyboard/mouse) and the front screen is overkill imho. According to Mike/Devon the PSU in the 2480 is pretty decent and quie...

parts for a quiet HTPC
Hi gang, for some time now I've been thinking of buying an HTPC. Now that I have a new HD flatscreen and would like to watch some BluRay movies I figger the time is right. I'd use this PC only to watch movies & photos, listen to music and occasionaly surf the web. No gaming or other heavy duty stuff...

the HTPC would only be used for 1 purpose at a time. Regular HTPC stuff: * occasionally browse the web * watch movies * listen to music definatelly not doing x while y. I now have an X-fi Platinum in my desktop (one of the first cards that was released with that chipset), and it doesn't have any dig...

in the meantime I also tried googling on this topic (found quite some topics on problems with HDMI pass through :?) But basically what I found was that you just need to specify in either the BIOS or the software that comes with the motherboard that audio should go through HDMI in stead of SPDIF/anal...

Core i3's ability to pass surround sound over HDMI
I'm thinking of getting a HTPC to connect to my new flatscreen. If I'm well informed the Core i3 is able to send surround sound over a HDMI cable thanks to its IGP. I'm quite new on this niche area of IT, so some (noob) questions came to mind... Audio coming from a bluray disc shouldn't be processed...

wow, a reply from "da man" himself :) I'm flattered. Well, a big thanks to you is also in order. The original rig and a couple of the parts of this upgrade was mainly inspired by the reviews on SPCR, so I couldn't have done this without your work. I don't know why, but people seem not to beli...
