Re: What to use for the inside of my PC external wooden box?
If the case-airflow is just front to back (only found the PaQ cases in old links), then the enclosure you envisioned shouldn't change the cooling capabilities. Dampening in this case would only be useful to reduce vibrations that might be passed onto the wooden enclosure. Why not just put some soft ...

That's al-right, I think my gear upgrade syndrome flared up again. I think the S-Flex fans will have to do for a bit longer. Thanks though!Krydel wrote:Afraid not i'm in Leamington Spa - guessing you'd want to view beforehand? Can video them individually working or something if that'd help.

Hrm, prices are still a bit high for the 960, in particular considering that used 670ies are sold for ~100 quid. And those are probably still faster.

A lot of empty space on the MSI PCB. Asus sized theirs down. Hmm, with 22cm length this will fit into some quite compact cases.

"As long as the motherboard remains frozen in a form factor never meant for video cards that exceed the power and thermal profile of CPUs, liquid cooling will continue to attract." Re: Interesting cubes from Thermaltake for high performance
When I looked through these cube cases with a front intake fan, they all seem to have a common weakness: not a lot of breathing room at the GPU side and the intake fan is centred on the CPU, rather than offset to the GPU side.thierry. wrote:The Core V1 is smaller (and I don't need the handles of Prodigy, etc.)

Re: Has anyone used "bass trap" foam blocks before?
You might be over-thinking this issue. The consensus here is that most dampening material for PC cases is not a particularly good investment (except weight loading side panels). There simply isn't enough space for this to have a significant effect and there are still loads of open paths through whic...

Re: Lian Li O-series - Mobo and GPU side-by-side
I did, but couldn't find a riser that long and facing left towards the cpu, so the graphic card's cooler faces up. That's because if it just faces left the fans would point towards the motherboard tray (if I understand you correctly). In these O-series cases they actually moved the slot onto the bo...

Re: Lian Li O-series - Mobo and GPU side-by-side
What could have been better:
* shift the front-vents to the GPU side of the case
* less space behind the mobo, more height for the main chamber
Not sure how the exhaust fan _behind_ the mobo-tray works. Very peculiar.

Lian Li O-series - Mobo and GPU side-by-side
Hi folks, http://www.lian-li.com/en/lian-li-launches-o-series-wall-mountable-chassis/ I thought this might be an interesting concept to discuss: The graphics card is mounted next to the mainboard with fans facing up. I think this can possibly solve a lot of issues with heat accumulating under the ca...

Re: Antec NSK3480 with Noctua NH-U12P
Actually, I like the top PSU position - perfect for fanless PSU. To be a viable Silent Gaming PC contender, it really needs only 2 changes: low impedance 120mm fan intake & bottom panel vented for GPU cooling intake. We might even do a build with a modded case if we can get another sample from Ante...

though the Earthwatts definitely is the loudest component. Swap the fan and drive it externally: it will be one of the quietest PSUs around (it's actually quieter than my Seasonic 460W fanless). This is awesome! I built my mom a very similar system around the same time. Still goes strong, though the Earthwatts definitely is the loudest component. I wish they would update the case. With some cable routing capabilities and maybe a 140mm front fan it would have been a strong contender for the ...

You might want to go directly to a passively cooled NUC. Anything with fans will eventually gunk up with dust, unless you meticulously clean the filters (which you don't seem to want to do).
edit: that said, they won't do 3TB or 16GB RAM, but 2TB (2.5" drive) and 8GB of RAM for sure.

A 3.5" SSHD is a bit of a weird use case. I have the feeling that if a 3.5" drive fits, you can very likely fit a pure SSD for the OS and programs as well.

@ heloc, if you want GPU heat to be separate from CPU, ducting would seem much more cost effective than any H20 system. and you'd avoid pump noise. I was thinking this as well. Wouldn't it be cool to have some modular system in a case that cuts the motherboard compartment in half? @MikeC, any chanc...

If everything still seems stable, you need to find out why this happened so it doesn't come back in spades. It is possible and it has happened that this is due to faulty solder joints causing arcing but the other possibility is a sever surge due to faulty components up the line. You want to make su...

Re: Passively Cooled R9 270 by Powercolor
I actually don't see much use for passive cooled GPU's anymore, to be honest. A few years ago I had a HD4850 (Gigabyte). The card itself was silent, but without decent airflow the card got fried in no time. I had to buy extra casefans, modify the case and ended up with a louder system than I had be...
