Dell Dimension 2400 and Motherboard Monitor

Post by johnc » Thu Sep 09, 2004 6:00 am

My relatives recently bought a Dell Dimension 2400 as a second computer. It was not running as well as expected. I had a look at it and found that it seemed to be memory deficient, with free physical memory usually at 20% - 30% of the total of 256 MB. I looked at processes, and could not sort out a good way to decrease RAM use. $80 worth of Crucial RAM later, that problem is solved.

In addition, I turned off all the Eye Candy, such as Fade Transitions, etc., and now the computer is very quick.

I was hoping to monitor CPU temp, etc, but I cannot configure MBM to work with this computer. I have tried to figure out the name of the motherboard, but I just come up with a company in Taiwan, Restek, and the trail ends there.

I have searched the SPCR forums about Dell and MBM, and it seems that few have had luck with getting the two to work together. Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance.

There are no sensors supplied on Dell mobos. There's nothing for any fan monitoring app to read. You're SOL. Sorryy. :(

Thanks for the info, Ralph.

No more time will be spent going in that direction.
