Dumb question -- do you need to clean...

Post by dasman » Sat Jan 17, 2004 3:28 pm

Do you need to clean the adhesive off of the video chip after popping off the stock HSF?

I'm new to this whole thing -- I just pulled off the stock HSF off an AIW 8500 and I'm not sure if I need if I need to clean off the chip before putting a zalman HS on...

If I do need to clean it, what do I use?

Thanks

Dave

Yes you do. 91% pure rubbing alcohol. Use on the heatsink AND the chip to clean all imperfections and junk off of it. Also use a lint free cloth if one is handy. If not, use compressed air to make sure than no lint is on the chip.

Of course!
I said it was a dumb question

I kinda thought you did, I just didn't want to go ahead and ruin anything.

Thanks for the answer on what to use Munichkid :)
