Interesting thread on Anandtech: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... TMP=Linear
Conclusion: performace gain from expensive RAM = marginal and value priced RAM (~$140/Gig) works just fine.

Big changes in the system. Seems the budget was increased. See below for the new set-up.

Case: Antec SLK3000-B

PSU: Seasonic Super Silencer 400

CPU/Mobo: AMD 64-3500+ (90nm) and Asus A8V Deluxe Wifi

Video card: I broke down and decided to use the Gigabyte Heatpipe 6800 (GV-N68128DH).

Cooling and fans

CPU sink and fan - Thermalright XP-120 and Nexus 120mm fan
Case fan(s): Some of those orange Yate Loons that I got from iSellSurplus for cheap.

RAM – 1Gig of Mushkin for $140

Optical drive – The NEC 3500A series DL DVD drive.

HDD - Dual Samsung Spinpoint 1614C (160 gig)

Oh yeah, Fanmate 2's all over the place to reduce the fan speeds.

Once again, thanks to all for their input.
