I know this thread has been overkilled, and kinda dead, but has anybody figured out how to enable the AAM on Seagate 7200.7's?
I've been scouring the SPCR forums and Yahoo for this topic, and people repeatedly say that they are goin to mess with the firmware to enable AAM on these drives...
Just a few questions:
1) Is AAM even installed on these drives??? I've read that only the firmware is limiting these drives from utilization of AAM... Is this just an urban legend???
2) I've also read that AAM is turned on by default on PATA drives and off on SATA drives (even though the settings are inaccesable). Is this true? I have 3 PATA drives, and the seek noise on my original 80GB HD is LOUD...
Thanks

I think there is no AAM, and so, no way to use it. Not a firmware limit..
I don't care that much about seek noise, I'm more concerned about idle noise. My only personal experience with 7200.7 is that two HD's can be very different in both idle and seek noise, seems like it's a matter of luck.
