Problem: File System Error?

Post by acaurora » Mon Apr 18, 2005 1:47 pm

Well to make it short -

I had 2 IDE HDDs that I rarely use. After taking both out, I buy an enclosure to put one of them in - 200 GB 7200.7 - and it doesn't work! I can still test it using HDTach, view info on PartitionMagic, but can't access the files. Chkdsk has the same error - cannot detect file system. So how can I fix this without reformatting my precious data? I am running SeaTools Extended Test right now - The quick test showed nothing. I think hardware wise the drive is fine - it's jsut fixing the File System - NTFS, that is the problem. Suggestions?

Not sure if you tried this, and I can't imagine why it would give that error from running in an enclosure, but have you tried putting the drive back to a normal IDE internal channel?

I ran PartitionMagic to scan for errors - and it shows up with # 1507 - Bad file record signature - Critical. Then it says Error #7 - Operation Canceled by user, yet I didn't do anything. Mean anything ? I mean, partitionmagic can identify it as a NTFS partition, but chkdsk can't do jack squat. ? ? ? ?
