What do you think? Zalman 7000B-AlCu or Swiftech MCX6400-V
Pondering which HS to replace the stock AMD cooler for my Athlon 64 3500+ with.
It has come down to these two:
Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu or
Swiftech MCX6400-V
I'm thinking about pairing the Swiftech heatsink with either an Arctic Cooler temperature controlled 80 mm fan or a temerature controlled 80 mm fan from Papst.
So the Swiftech/temp fan combo is the by far most expensive of the two. I'm looking for a fan that is both quiet but at the same time effective.
So can anyone give me input on this?
Btw, does anyone have first hand experience with the Papst and/or Arctic Cooler fan and can tell me if they are indeed as quite as the manufacturer claims...
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

I'd recommend the Zalman. It will be cheaper and more effective, at lower noise.
In my opinion, Swiftech heatsinks are great when high airflow/noise fans are used but they don't really perform that well with low speed fans.
The Zalman 7000, on the other hand is simply awesome, even at extremely low fan speeds (3-4V.)

I've gotten spectacular performance out of the Zalman, just in stock condition. The only thing that I change, out of the stock condition, is running it at lower than 5V (which is as low as the included Zalman Fan-Mate will allow.)
I made a Fan Voltage Controller Strip, to achieve voltages as low as 3V, with this heatsink and it performs great, even at a voltage that low.

Something many people overlook is the weight of some of these heatsinks. The Swiftech is a monster - who wants to detach the heatsink every time you move the computer? The Zalman on the other hand is well within acceptable weight limits. The Swiftech does have the advantage of having been designed for suck operation, allowing you to duct the heat directly outside the case.
I've got 3 Arctic Cooling TC Pro's, and they all vary slightly in noise level and quality. None of them are anywhere near as quiet as a Panaflo 80L @ 7V.

I don't know if it applies to Neo2 also (I have Neo), but Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu (without the A/B designation) fits right onto the stock backplate with MSI K8N Neo. With the A version one either needs to replace the stock backplate with the one that comes with Zalman, or request (and I'm thinking this is US only?) the correct-height nipples from Zalman.Zeatrix wrote:Pondering which HS to replace the stock AMD cooler for my Athlon 64 3500+ with.

Dunno about the B version though.

You can find them over at overclockers, not sure if they have any in stock though. If not, you can always buy them from Dorothy, I do not know how she is dealing with international orders but I have heard that others in Sweden have been ordering fans from her.Zeatrix wrote:Problem is, there is no retailer here in Sweden that carries those... :/
