Where to buy backplate for xp-120 for Gigabyte Motherboards?

Post by laphroaig » Sat May 07, 2005 3:44 pm

Question is quite simple...WHERE???

My google skills are usually very high, but I have recently decided to go with a gigabyte board and now need that backplate for the XP-120. Where do I get one? Help!!! This is really getting me frustrated.

"backplate"?

Do you mean the plastic piece that goes underneath the board on AMD systems? If so, the XP-120 comes with it. If you got an "Intel-only" version of the XP-120 and need the AMD piece, let me know and I'll send you one for the price of postage. Where do you live?

No, that's not what I meant. The "backplate" is the metal thing on the bottom of the motherboard under the the socket for the CPU. Execpt, on Gigabyte's motherboards, they're plastic, and the instructions say to replace that one with a metal one that you can get. Problem is, they never say where! OR am I being too worried about this.

It's not plastic. From the Thermalright website:

"Unlike other mobo makers, Gigabyte uses a customized plastic motherboard backplate for its K8 motherboards, which is not compatible with XP-120 K8 retention bracket. Users need to remove it and replace it with a standard metal backplate before installation of Thermalright XP series heatsink. For more information regarding AMD K8 backplate please see Athlon64 processor thermal design guide."

Other motherboards use a metal backplate included with the motherboard.

UK based shops?

Post by Just Dude » Mon Jun 06, 2005 3:50 am

Does anyone know if a UK based shop has it? I've checked the UK resellers listed on Thermalright's Where to buy page, but they don't seem to have it. Googling etc. gave me nothing, and I've ended up looking at a german reseller, PC-cooling.de, which can ship at a reasonable price in EU.....

just been looking at these coolers on http://www.overclock.co.uk, think the XP-90 is £25 and XP-120 is £31, off the top of my head. No idea on p+p though.

Huh? I meant the K8 motherboard backplate - does any UK reseller have it? I know where to get XP-120 (or 90)....
