I have my Delta WFB1212M's running at 5 volt at times. Only thing is a slight ticking noise.dan wrote:i looked on pricewatch and i cant seem to find any 14 cm fans.

Yate loon makes some 140x25 mm ones. I haven't seen them anywhere, although I'd be much more interested in their 120x38 fans. I'm sure Papst makes a bunch of different 140's.dan wrote:i looked on pricewatch and i cant seem to find any 14 cm fans.

Many yate loons start below that, under 4 volts.dan wrote:also are there any 12cm fans that can start and run with 5 volts?

Here in Winnipeg there is a car part and tool dealer called Princess Auto and in their surplus department the had some Papst 6424 140x50mm fans for about $30CAN.
They're 24V, but I run them at less than 12. Since it's a 26 watt fan I wired up two fan controllers in parallel. It runs very quiet and is at least as good as my 120v Accuflow 120mm fan.
But the thing is so big I had to drill new holes in the back, cut away some of the sheet metal, and hang it on the outside of my case. I'm also going to have to go to Wall Mart to find something like a bbq grill to cut down for a finger guard.

You might be able to order some from the above site. The 120v 120mm Accuflow (also pretty good if you have an ac fan control knod wired in) is also available there.

I think you are wrong indeed.dan wrote:perhaps i'm wrong but i'm sort of the opinion that pretty much any fan, esp 12 or 14cm running at 5volts would be "dead silent"
The airflow noise will probably be "dead silent", but not all fan motors are equal. The volume of the clicking sound some fans make is not always related to the speed that they run.
On top of that higher speed fans usually have a higher minimum speed.

Yep, you're wrong. I think you'd be surprised how noisy many 120mm fans can be at 5V, unless your definition of "dead silent" is waay different than that of most here at SPCR.dan wrote:perhaps i'm wrong but i'm sort of the opinion that pretty much any fan, esp 12 or 14cm running at 5volts would be "dead silent"

Hi all !
Try to contact Yate Loon : www.yateloon.com
The D14SL-12 seems to be the perfect candidate for silence and awesome airflow, although I doubt it will be as deadly silent as a 80mm fan at 5V...
This 140mm fan of Yate Loon spins at 1000RPM, and is a sleeve bearing one. Unfortunately, they don't say what type of connection it has (3-pin, or 4-pin connection ?)....
See you
