1200rpm or 1600 lowered to 1200

Post by newschool » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:51 pm

Basically I am going to buy the new Scythe Slip Stream 120mm and I want to know if a 1600rpm rated fan running at 1200 will have the same noise/airflow ratio as a basic 1200 rated fan.

Im asking this because I'm an overclocker so sometimes when playing I would like to crank the case fans to the max and in those times I dont care about the noise since I have my headphones on.

Thanks

They should sound exactly the same at 1200rpms.......the difference? The 1600 version runs faster @12v. The 1200 version might run slower at lower voltages, and might start easier at low voltages. That's about it...

Hello,

I hope that you do not need the 1200RPM's, let alone 1600RPM's. Typical quiet systems in my experience run their fans 500-900 RPM's -- or not at all. And these Slipstream fans blow a bit more air at a given RPM than some other fans, so you might never need more than the 800RPM version.

Oh I see... I guess Im going to get the 1200s and run them at 800 or 500. When Im playing I'll use them at 12V.

I have a P182, I will use 2 slipstream as exhaust at the back of the case and only use negative pressure to get air from the front grill. Is it a good solution?

Thanks for the answers guys great forum.

You will never need the 88.1CFM the 1600rpm fan provides, even with a high overclock.

It's a good solution if you remove the filter door and the filter itself as they're both very restrictive.
