4850e stock CPU fan too fast?

Post by yuckhil » Mon Aug 25, 2008 2:15 am

GA-MA78GM-S2H v1.1 F5 and 4850e with stock HSF in an Antec NSK3480 case with stock Tricool 120mm rear and EA380 PSU. BIOS option 'CPU Smart Fan Mode' = Auto.

The 4850e idles at 1.0V 1.0 GHz and SpeedFan reports the CPU at 21-22°C and the CPU fan at 1,200-1,400 RPM. I used CrystalCPUID to obtain 0.8V 1.0 GHz and the CPU dropped to 19°C, but the fan stayed above 1,000 RPM.

The SPCR 780G review mentions, "the X2 4850e heatsink stock fan (650 to 3200RPM)" and they obtained 850 RPM at 25°C.

Does this stock AMD CPU fan really spin that slow? What options am I missing? Thanks.

Hi! Welcome to SPCR!

The stock cooler is different. As you can see from SPCR review, they have cooler which has two heat pipes. The boxed cooler you get with 4850e doesn't have heatpipes.

Hi, thanks for the reply and for the welcome!

You are absolutely correct, and their fan is pretty posh too, with 9 fins.

Cheers!
