Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast
I'm using HWMonitor and Speedfan and it shows that my Zalman CNPS 14x is always at around 1160 rpm, even at idle temps of 30C, and maxes at around 1250 rpm at load. Is this right? The Zalman website lists the operating range as 950 ~ 1,350rpm ± 10%, and I'm getting nowhere near 950 rpm. I have an ASUS M4A88T-M mobo and an AMD x4 955

Did you configure Asus Q-Fan in BIOS?

And i would try Asus FanExpert instead of speedfan. If it works, you should be able to finetune rpm.

Re: Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast
My BIOS only has options for enabling/disabling Q-Fan and some rudimentary temperature option that seems to make no difference (I've tried) .Pappnaas wrote:Did you configure Asus Q-Fan in BIOS?

Also, I can't seem to access Fan Xpert. All the options in Q-Fan are disabled, but if I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\AI Suite and open up the various files, there are these programs but again I can't access or interact with any of it.

Re: Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast
To work Fan Xpert needs Q-Fan to be enabled in the BIOS. Fan Xpert once working should offer you a choice of profiles, of which Silent could be the best option. As you can already see there is a fan calibration facility which should establish the lowest speeds at which the CPU fan can run.

I have Q-Fan enabled in BIOS. When I start AI Suite, there is nothing to open up (no Fan Xpert). But it does seem to be stuck in the performance setting, I can't change anything and all options are greyed out.lodestar wrote:To work Fan Xpert needs Q-Fan to be enabled in the BIOS. Also, I tried just plugging the stock cpu fan, and that too seems to spin too fast. I'm thinking something is wrong with my motherboard of bios.

Re: Zalman CNPS 14x spinning too fast
I have the exact same problem but I can vary the speed.
max speed is 1460
min speed 1110
I'm nowhere near the desired 950 rpm.
My mobo is a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H.
