Been suggested a Thermaltake NiC F3 for either...
- Intel Core i5 4670K - 3.4 GHz
- Intel Core i5-3570K Processor(6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
How'd be that?
Thermaltake NiC F3 -- What to say when offered?

Re: Thermaltake NiC F3 -- What to say when offered?
At what price? I suppose this is where a value assessment begins.
Thermaltake is not a company normally associated with quiet computing. In fact if there is any company around that would not be recommended on this forum, it's most likely to be Thermaltake! They might advertise everything as 16dB and 'whisper quiet' but they must have been holding their SPL metre in a different room, or quite possibly a different country.
I know nothing about their NiC F3 but would be sceptical of any dB claims they make and suggest you look into performance reviews a little more. A fan swap might help if the fan supplied is not quiet enough but this would add a little cost and then it's more about the cooling performance of the heatsink itself.

Re: Thermaltake NiC F3 -- What to say when offered?
I have bought some thermaltake fans on past (like 10 years ago) and they were meh, i think thier cases are ok, their FRIO cooler was a good perfomer but for quiet i wouldnt god with thermaltake.
If you are looking for CPU cooler,
Cheap / Good performance: Coolermaster 212 EVO, Xigmatek 1283
Good Value / Great perfomance: Thermalright HR02 Macho, Scythe Mugen 3/4
Expensive / Top Performers: Thermalright Silver Arrow SBE, Noctua NH-D14, Prolimatech Genesis, Phantek PH-TC14PE

Re: Thermaltake NiC F3 -- What to say when offered?
The mounting system seems to be similar to Noctua's, so you can install the backplate mountings and cooler separately. Which is not too bad. Cooling capability is probably limited by it having only three 6mm heat-pipes. The fan is PWM and seems to be a completely standard generic item. However with a speed range of 800 to 1600 rpm it's not likely to be quiet at any speed. A swap to any open framed 120mm fan of your choice is possible.T K wrote:How'd be that?

Ever cared to look at the "recommended heatsink" list?
