What are good alternatives to HD7770 ?
I've got Power Color HD7770
http://www.powercolor.com/de/show_img.a ... _b_s_2.jpg
using with monitor resolution 2560x1440; problem is that when DirectShow or Flash is active then I see some black squares artifacts;
I tried many drivers&settings and still no luck. I don't do gaming but mostly video transcoding.
Please recommend good affordable silent and driver safe card for my needs.

Have you monitored GPU temperature via CCC? Maybe it's overheating and all you need is to:
- reseat the cooler and/or RAM/VRM heatsinks
- strap an inaudible low rpm fan to the card.

If Nvidia is good at transcoding (I can't help), IME either an ASUS GTX-650Ti DC-II OC 1Gb or a MSI N650-TI OC 1GB Power Edition would be good for you.
If you want to stick with AMD, I have good experiences with the XFX HD7770 double dissipation GHz edition and the HD7850 double dissipation Black Edition.

I'm forced to go AMD due to an essential feature related to wide-gamut displays. Do I understand correctly that any HD7770/250x can be controlled in Afterburner or Speedfan? Or do only specific models support this like the XFX? I've also seen favorable mentions of Asus and MSI.

Well, to be precise "your mileage may vary" but, to be honest, I would expect that any Radeon were software controllable (either via Rivatuner/Afterburner/Precision or Speedfan).

Installed the XFX double fan today, turning the fans down to 700-800rpm in Speedfan makes them "disappear". Neat. I tried running furmark and got a bit scared at the temps, though running Heaven and 3Dmark I get max 90 degrees. High side of safe I guess.
I'm surprised Chrome is a lot snappier than with the iGPU and didn't crash when I loaded up huge amount of tabs. The other thing I tried was video playback with MadVR and obviously it smokes the iGPU, this was my main reason for upgrading.
