Is there a gold PSU that is not so expensive?
be quiet! Straight Power 10 500W CM is pretty great from all I've read, except the price.
Is there an alternative that is not so expensive?

Two gold/platinum power PSU that are not that expensive and perform well and are relatively quiet are,
CORSAIR RMx Series RM550X $99
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2$99
SeaSonic X650 SS-650KM3 $99
If you want cheaper, i would give a shot to EVGA Supernova G3 550W 220-G3-0550-Y1$80

I presume all of those are as quiet since we are on silentpc forum?
Btw, there is no need to go over 500W, even if the GPU is 250W?

Not really. Your parts shouldn't get above 400W at peak.Tilltech wrote:Btw, there is no need to go over 500W, even if the GPU is 250W?
The critical aspect could be to have sufficient PCIe power connectors and 12V provision on the PSU.

I did a search on NewEgg and filtered for Gold, Platinum, and Titanium up to 500W - and there are 33 PSU's under $100. The least expensive is $50 (Raidmax 500W Gold SLi / Crossfire ready, and it is modular).

Jeez, Neil, Raidmax is one of the least reliable PSU brand all over the world, their usual OEM, Andyson, is among the least regarded ones all over China.NeilBlanchard wrote:I did a search on NewEgg and filtered for Gold, Platinum, and Titanium up to 500W - and there are 33 PSU's under $100. Usually their PSUs are pathetic, I don't know that Cobra Gold, but for instance the the Cobra 500W Bronze sibling surely is (pathetic): look at the warranty, TWO years! You know, it's not a Seasonic Prime with 12 years warranty.
And I woudn't bet it can be quiet.
I think it has to be mandatorily overlooked, it's more probably that not a 49.99 piece of garbage.

If you're up for a little project, a Dell RM112 is like $30-40 on ebay, 235W Gold. Needs a different mobo connector (I soldered mine, but I think there are adapters available now). Then you need a way to mount it since it's not ATX. Mine has been running fine for 7 years...
Re: Is there a gold PSU that is not so expensive?
Btw, why does it say that PSUs with ATX cable are semi-modular, since you can't do anything without that cable.
It doesn't make any sense.

Good to know - there are about 30 other PSU's to choose from under $100.quest_for_silence wrote:Jeez, Neil, Raidmax is one of the least reliable PSU brand all over the world, their usual OEM, Andyson, is among the least regarded ones all over China.NeilBlanchard wrote:I did a search on NewEgg and filtered for Gold, Platinum, and Titanium up to 500W - and there are 33 PSU's under $100.
