Re: Akasa Euler Fanless case
Is the power brick the same one on the Euler & the Euler S? Any recommended bricks other then the "great wall" one that some suppliers have? Depending on the processor and configuration I ran my for two weeks with a 65W 18.5VDC HP Laptop adapter! Most motherboards in this form factor ared designed ...

I thought I'd add my brief review here in case anyone decides to do a build with this case. yes it is. It will get audible during gaming but not badly, and in 2D -- ie, most other windows work -- it'll be pretty much inaudible in a decent case. I'd agree with this. I have a reference 4870 in an Antec P182 and you could just barely hear the cooler at idle. But for me the problem was hearin...

so...being cheap i might just stick with the sapphire one if it stay relatively quiet. The reference cooler is OK at idle and while using Vista's Aero. The noise was just at the noise floor of the rest of my system. I thought I could pick it out, but it blended well and didn't have any unpleasant t...

Re: non reference saphire 4870
I was originally going to put a Accelero S1 rev2 on a referene 4870 to make it fanless but from reading other threads here, it seems like there could be some problems with the VRM sinks not fitting properly. thanks http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=50678&highlight=4870 You can mo...

Fan Control
Funny enough that this review came out right after I became familiar with the fan controller and the new Catalyst Control Center. At least on my 4870 with the absolute latest version of of the CCC you now have the option to set a manual fixed fan level. I too found the change in RPM to be quite anno...

My approach to quieting a reference design ATI 4870
I purchased a 1GB Sapphire ATI reference design 4870. I had read a few reviews and most said that it was quite quiet at idle. I would agree, but the card is biased toward silence at the expense of heat. At idle I was getting temperatures of around 80C. I had read that ATI has rated the GPU for 100C ...

Hi guys, First time poster. It wasn't much of a problem, but I had to bend the plastic around my HSF (stock) to get the windtunnel to fit on there. (image deleted) I was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend a good HSF combo, or just a good HS that I might be able to use with the windtunne...

hi, thanks for the tip. I think the Asus A8N might be slightly different to the DFI (eg. it's a card, not a jumper) but i'll definitely give it a go anyway. I might first try manually enabling SLi mode in the BIOS without altering the mobo, just to see what happens... I've read elsewhere that peopl...

Re: Cool - glad to see your take on the TJ06
The Tt is also available in all Cu, but I didn't want that much weight on my MB or used with its less than wonderful mounting system.ChristianN wrote:

Theres a few upsides to the asus board: * CPU placement * Chipset placement * Availability Same exact reasons. I'm not a huge overclocker, but to date the other boards generally overclock better. Not a huge issue for me. I've had no problems with the board and a mild 5% overclock (with voltages bel...

Cool - glad to see your take on the TJ06
You use either Motherboard Monitor and select the ITE8712F I/O chip or go to DFI (and look at the downloads for their NForce4 SLI board) for utilities that will read the NB temperature on the ASUS board. I prefer MBM, but it requires quite a bit more configuring. DFI is plug and go. With the Zalman ...

Temperature on a 3200+ Winchester is about 39C at idle and with CPU burn has hit 59C. In summer it might be a degree or two higher. So I have no complaints with the TT, but I agree with Mike that the mounting system stinks. BTW Cool and Quiet is off it lowers temps about another 4C at idle. Noise is...

Updated A8N-SLI
Figured I would post an update on my build. The Zalman ZM-NB47J does in fact fit with two 6600GTs. Since the system is mostly mid range stuff in regards to processor and memory I figured I didn' need the hassle of selling the first 6600GT and replacing it with a 6800GT. I was able to find a refurbis...

I have the Asus and can say it is far from silent. I undervolt it with a fan controller and it works just fine. The quality is high with quicker memory than the reference board and is "overclocked" stock. I think they decided to go noisy and cool for overclockers. I think I read the MSI has problems...

Re: Hehe
Good luck with your new build. Let me know how you like your A8N- SLI.. . Which PSU are you planning to use? These SLI rigs seem to be needing plenty of power on the 12V- they are recommending at least 20 AMPs on the rail for the more powerful GPU's, and dual rail might be the best way to go. Other...

Thanks for the kind words all. I've been quieting P4 in an Antec 3700 series case for about year for practice. I've always wanted to start from square one without having to rip the PC to pieces. So when my father in law needed a new PC I saw the chance to give an older one away and rotate the P4 ove...

Hi all. First post, but I've been reading for a while. I wound up building the Asus A8N-SLI that people here have discussed. Couple of things. I added a 92mm fan in the drive cage and used silicon to suspend two hard drives in RAID 1 (after having a HD fail - you don't want to go back). A 120mm is g...
