White all over with red highlights, Famicom style! Or just how it looks now isn't bad :D Black clashes hard with my Macs, so the white and silver is a nice compromise. PowerBooks and Power Macs (silver), iMac and iBook (white). Then the Mac mini is both so it looks good with all of them. At least un...

My EVGA 7800GTX KO has been quiet, well, when my 3800+ X2 ramps up its it drowns out everything. So I put the back exhaust (P180) on medium and now I can keep my stock HSF at 2500 RPM idle and 3000 RPM under load... of course now the back exhaust drowns out anything else. Haha. But I don't notice th...

Gigabyte K8N Ultra-SLI + Seasonic S12-500 = Success (with caveats) Main power cable is tight but connects 4pin must be routed under video card Because of 4pin position all PCI (and remaining PCI-E 8x) slots are inaccessible Oh, and be sure to connect front-case cables BEFORE wiring power and install...

HotHardware has a review of the TOP. Linked to page 2 to demonstrate something; you need an ASUS board for SLI. These cards are too wide to work in the majority of SLI boards and need two PCI-E connectors between each 16x one.

What I mean by reference, I mean mostly the coolers. With the exception of the eVGA K.O. and this ASUS 7800GTX TOP the rest look nearly identical. So the vast majority are sticking with the reference cooling solution. Thats what I'm saying. Yeah I've been the to the eVGA Forums, looks like you have ...

FTA: "ASUS claims that there would not be any installation problems using the Extreme N7800 GTX in an SLI rig due to its size. The catch is that the SLI motherboard must be an ASUS board too. As our test system is coincidentally based on an ASUS SLI motherboard, we did not encounter any problems wit...

And I was just reading about the EVGA KO Edition card at AnandTech. This of course looks like a better cooler then EVGA's but at least we now have manufactures deverging from the reference cooler. First I wanted to go BFG, now EVGA looks tempting with lower noise, temps and increased performance plu...

Yeah mine is closer to 5mm too. The bulge starts shortly below the top of the door and doesn't stop until near the bottom.jermaink wrote:dodecahedron, your bulging is quite minimal. I'm getting about 5 mm on mine, while yours looks to be about 2 mm.
Purchased mine from End PC Noise with free ground shipping.

teknerd is right about the Asus Premium mobo, but for the video card, you should get an X800XL, cheaper and performs alongside the 6800GT. The Abit AN8-SLI is a lot cheaper than the Asus Premium board though and the Asus board doesnt seem to feature the nice 6-way fan speed controller found on the ...

I don't know it temp has anything to do with it. When I first got my case it was over 35c outside and from the touch had been on the delivery van all day. It was VERY warm inside. And the front bulged. Haven't noticed a real difference after it has been sitting in the office. Even the ones in Frys, ...

Cool. Yeah I'll probably end up going with a 3700. Reviews I read though said a 7800GTX SLI setup begins to bottleneck at the processor but I'm not sure by how much and they were using some FX, probably the plus-grand one. Multis huh. Ok. I haven't built a PC in over 7 years, and have been a Mac use...

Don't have much to add but I'm also in this dilemma. I remember seeing a gaming benchmark showing very little increase in frames per second versus all AMD processors. Re: The future of NV's GPUs
What you probably *don't* know about the 7800GTX is that it has at least three different internal clocks that vary depending on load. It's a bit like Cool n' Quiet, but better because individual sections of the GPU can vary their clock based on demand. Cool. That should keep it quiet (relatively) d...

OK, back to original subject. It's been quite a few years but IIRC, the G4 wasn't exactly a cool running processor and had thermal safety built in - like the Presscots. Just like economy PC's in the IBM-PC realm, the low end systems don't take advantage of all the latest hardware or software by de...
