Well that all depends on how much heat we are talking about
They have yet to release any figures on how much it can handle AFAIK.

They say its optional, or do you have a link with some more details ?Happy Hopping wrote:read in between the lines, zalman themselves said you need a cooling fan. In their case, a 92 mm fan. The fan noise will be quite high as the diameter of the fan is too small

I know opinion on Noctua can be divide, but it seem like the have updated the design of the NF-S12A 120mm fan.

Re: Exaust fan: low RPM or speed controller, recs?
AFAIK MSI use "Control Center" as a way to control the fan speeds of the PWM headers from within windows. And i maybe wrong as ive only had a quick look but doesn't you MoBo come with 1x CPU fan PWM, 2x Case fan PWM, 2x Case fan Normal (3pin) ? Edit: Im guessing you have the exhaust fan attached to ...

Do i have my architecture mixed up with my die shrinks then ?
Ahhh i just looked up on the wiki
Tick is a shrinking of the die of the previous architecture and tock is the new architecture.
Sorry about that.

I think its probably because Haswell isn't a major change from Ivy Bridge, Intel call Haswell a tock so there isn't as many changes as when going to new a architecture.

Probably not a good idea to use white spirits to clean goop as it is oil based and may leave behind a residue that will inhibit the newly applied goop.
Best to use a proper cleaner designed for goop cleaning or just buy some isopropyl alcohol.

I'm not %100 sure but i think this started to be the case from Nvidia 500 series and AMD 6000 series onwards, its really just a safety feature AFAIK.

I would question the use of 120mm fans on a graphic card as they are wider than the card its self, wouldn't a better use for them be to try and increase the cool air being directed at the card ?

Re: PSU Overload or ineffective fan?
They're there to sell bigger PSUs than people need. Why else would PSU manufacturers have them on their sites? In addition you'll then get the wannabe overclockers who will read that number and double it 'just to be safe'. This is how 1500W PSUs get sold. But when the calculator isn't on a manufact...

So are PSU calculators any good at all maybe just for a ball park figure ?

Re: PSU Overload or ineffective fan?
Your stressed load power is < 350W..and probably < 275W while gaming. A lot of PSUs start to crank up the fan rpm past 50% load...it could be your PSU is running hotter (clogged up fan blades, poor airflow) causing an earlier fan ramp. Not that im questioning the stressed load is under 350W, but as...

Re: PSU Overload or ineffective fan?
I done a quick work through on this http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine PSU calculator and it seems you are pushing close to the max load on you PSU, i came up with 445W.
But IDK if i got all your components so you may want to give it a try your self.

If the aftermarket HS can take 120mm or is passive then i agree you cant beat them with even the best manufactures HS, when not under load i think most modern GPU's underclock/undervolt a lot so they don't need much cooling. Under load its a different story, as a lot of aftermarket HS are simply big...

I would always therefore go for the aftermarket passive/semi-passive route if possible. IDK some card have very good HS now Asus, Gigabyte, Etc. I try to steer clear of after market HS after having bad experience with a previous one. On a side note what do you use for editing you BIOS, i have tried...

Is it my eyes or is the rear fan a 140mm so its making to bottom fan look smaller that 120mm ?
Also does the temperature of the GPU stop you from doing a custom fan profile for it ? how hot does it get ?
But im guessing if its quiet enough there is little point

Re: Furmark: a good load generator?
From what i have read it seems if the drivers detects Furmark or OCCT running it wont do anything until the power regulator comes under load, as soon as that happens it will underclock the card by %50 and regulate the power so you cant fry your card. Also from what i gather you can disable the card ...
