Re: heat sink/fan
Your cpu choice happens to be the same as mine (on order, not yet received) and I'm going to cool it with an Arctic Cooling alpine64 92mm. I used the same on a Athlon 4000+ system I built about a month ago, and besides being cheap, it is quiet and sufficient for these processors that don't dissipat...

Re: Provisional shopping list, q about fan for Ninja, etc
2 . Not a quietness question, but a general computer-building one. Description of ASRock board includes the phrase "1 x COM Port header". Am I right in thinking that a) COM port is a synonym for serial port? b) header means a bit to which I could attach some kind of cable, with a connector on the e...

Hehe thanks for the input. I may go for the Gigabyte even if it doesn't have undervolting as it will leave more room to put a big heatsink ( I hope so). Having a 6150 would be nice but I guess it is not that usefull since the machine will run in console mode most probably. I looked for the Asrock bu...

Need help chosing AM2 mother board / Heatsink combination
I am currently in the process of bulding a Linux server based on the AM2 Platform. Almost everything is settled down except for motherboard and the heatsink that will go on top of it. Here are the main components I have chosen: Case: Antec P150 PSU: Antec Neo HE 430W (Included in the case)[ HDD: SAM...

I was also looking to build a powerful server that would be my only computer always one that would be used for a web server, downloading maybe hosting game server too. I tried to go for something that is quiet while minimizing the cost here is what I came up with: Antec P150 (Power Supply is include...

Good point; I don't think I've done a cold start at 1.125v yet, only hot or warm starts. Since I leave my PC on all the time running folding@home now, I haven't had the opportunity to do a truly cold start. I'll give it a shot maybe this weekend and see if it boots up. Some mobos will actually appl...

I've been looking in CrystalCPUID myself and there was one thing I wondered. The interval time is seems significently higher then what CnQ use (I've read CnQ react in a matter of nano secconds) while the CrystalCPUID react in a matter of seconds. Has anyone noticed anykind of slowdown using crystal...

I don't think a 20mm tall fan would fit in my case. Ahh well I'm like you I don't like to risk the price of the motherboard. If I had know the chipset was that noisy I would probably have bought the a8n-sli premium (though it has a 100$ price premium over it :-/ ) but right now I would need to inves...

Yes, I think I maid a mistake when buying the NB-1. But I did remove the previous heatsink (original) because it was totaly dead I really didn't liked trying to remove the heatsink because I was a bit scaredto break the northbrindge since everyone seems to say how it is fragile and ppl have experien...

Reduce Speed of a northbridge Fan
Hi, I currently have an asus a8n-e and I've changed the northbridge for a thermalright NB-1. I have a 40mm (or 45 I don't remember) fan running at over 6500 rpm. (which is excessivly noisy.) I tried removing the fan completly but it gets pretty hot for my tastes so I'm not sur I wan't to leave it fa...
