YMMV... but I've had a horrible time getting my WD 640AAKS disks to work with any older (SATA 150) controllers. Even sticking a jumper over two pins to force SATA 150 mode still results in odd timeouts and disks dropping the SATA link. This is with an nforce3 board (So not new at all!), also tried w...

I've gone diskless in a slightly different way. This machine boots off another one downstairs with lots of disks in.

Solved!
Annoyingly, I'd left my USB->IDE adapter plugged in which slowed down boot massively. I didn't notice at first because I was pluggin in my mouse which is plugged in to a USB hub that lives behind my desk....and the USB->IDE thing was too. Thankies for the "Check for widgets" idea :) I might go post ...

Yep, tried each stick of RAM individually in all 4 slots with no luck. Not got any spare hard drives, but loading a ubuntu live CD seems to work fine. Tried just the CD drive and just the CF adapter, seemed to make no difference either. Don't have any spare mice, but the keyboard is PS2. Have tried ...

Feisty on a CompactFlash (With NFS server providing /)
I just wrote this up and thought of you guys  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/OnNFSDriveWithLocalBoot It guides you through setting up Ubuntu Feisty onto a root-over-NFS system with the /boot partition on a CompactFlash. Basically means you can eliminate hard drives from your des...

New Nexus PSU? NX-9003 SFB
Hi all, was browsing around the Nexus website and found This little thing.... To me, it looks like a regular Nexus PSU with some fancy fan stuff, but it'd be cool if SPCR could do a review of one...any chance of poking Nexus for it?

Wow, I find it incredible that the temperatures you are reporting are so much higher than mine! Perhaps the heatpiping mechanism of the gigabyte passive card is not as effective as it could be, having the intake below the graphics card (Knocking out all the PCI slots, btw) seems to help an awful lot.

heh, i've got one of these on sale right now actually (Radeon 9600 pro). It'd probably be very easy to slap on a huge ass heatsink and run it passive. Auction is here (Note to mods: I'm not sure if this is allowed, please say so if it isnt!). That card ran about 35C with the fan on its lowest settin...

With This System I get temperatures of about 55C Idle and 75C load (rthdribl for an hour, also folding@home to max the CPU ). So yeah, I think the passive gigabytes are pretty damned good but remember that i had an extra fan getting air from outside the case and blowing across the heatsink.

Well, I recieved my 6600GT today. Its quite a bit warmer than my Radeon 9600 pro was, Idle 58C and loaded its only 62C [Bots playing on UT2004, 1024x768 in a window so i could view temps easily]. I have an intake fan below the card and an exhaust above it, both 80mm Nexus' running at about 10 or 11V...
