Re: Geforce 560 or Radeon 6850/6870

All good thoughts! I am not too passive would work for me, since i run a very small/tight case (a Silverstone mATX affair). My Core2 Duo is fanless of soughts, simply a massive heatsink and sitting directly under the 120mm power supply fan. I looked at the MSI Cyclone. It looks good, but in the UK i...

Geforce 560 or Radeon 6850/6870

Hi All, I need to upgrade my 7900GTO which is getting long in the tooth. In the price/performance bracket are Geforce 560 and AMD 6850/6870. The FAN on my 7900GTO is very quiet at idle, I can sleep with it on no problem. I would like something similar. So idle noise level is very important. Load noi...

There is also this Asus one based on a via chipset - dont know whether it requires bios update or not:

Asus P5VD2-MX

'bout a third of a way down that page.

The AS rock ones look pretty cheap - might be worth a gamble...?

OH, you dont havea fan on the card. Yeah, that card roasts itself and that is why it doesnt exist anymore on the market. However, if added a silent to it, it becomes the best of all worlds. I looked hard for this, but it was yanked super fast..... reasons are obvious :( Not sure what you mean but t...

Yes i have received the 6600GT. I have had some issues!: Firstly the heatpipe arrangement is "thicker" than even the zalman z80D. Now this is an issue when you have a small uATX case and you PSU is very close to the AGP slot. So when i managed to cram it in, the temps were appaling, 93 at idle and i...

My 9800Pro also died very recently and also very suddenly. See here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=31596&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= The day before it died completely it was also complaining about the power connector not being in (when it was) and also it developed...

OK thanks, i guess i didnt really consider how much power the 9800pro was using... it did get very very hot even with that fairly large zalman on it! EDIT Using the swedish link in the fanless card sticky thread i was able to find this: http://www.intellect.uk.com/product_info.php?products_id=842&os...

9800 Pro has died - need advice to find silent replacement!

My 9800Pro with Zalman 80D heatpipe thingy has sadly passed away. having looked around extensively theres seems to be no easy successor. I currently have an asus mATX socket 478 platform with pentium m adapter and a PM Banias at 1800Mhz. Luckily this has a working on board graphics which while dire ...

Though the 12V is near the case (earth) it cant short because there just isnt enough bare wire protruding out of the bottom of the pot. I redone the suspension, now into a 5.25" bay properly. My Enermax PSU mod! [pics]

Hi everyone, I have recently taken apart my enermax PSU as it was getting rather noisy! Its a 365P-VE (350W, dual fan), some 2 years old. It was absolutely filthy inside which may have contributed to the fan(s) running full speed. The device has a 70mm fan on the back and an 80mm on the bottom. I re...

Just suspended my HDD - WOW! [PICS]

Hi everyone, I have just suspended my first hardisk, a Seagate 'cuda V! I am very impressed with the results, idle noise disappeared completely (with the exception of a periodic whining noise that i baffled by), seek noise dramatically reduced. Best 69p I have ever spent! Here is the computer curren...

I was very excited about this until I read anands article. There are 4 serious downsides over the AOpen solution. 1) The CT-479 does not support the Pentium M's SpeedStep technology 2) You can't adjust the clock multiplier of the Pentium M like you can on the AOpen/DFI offerings. 3) You also can't a...

My XP-120 and Zalman HP80D arrived yesterday and has been installed. The zalman was a tricky bugger to install but I am very pleased with both. XP-120 with 120mm Papst (the quiet one) at 7V virtually silent. It keeps my hungry 3.06GHz P4 at <50C under load. The Zalman gets extremely hot on my 9800pr...

Which 939/AGP Motherboard?

Hello, I am looking for a socket 939/AGP motherboard to stick A64-E 3000+ in once they become available. I have found 3 possible choices so far, thermalright XP-120 compatibility is a huge plus. I am loathed to say too much about my current case because I will almost certainly change it for a better looking one in the future, probably a HTPC style one. Suffice to say 120mm fans are unlikely to fit in such a case, and I am also yet to be convinced that any 120mm fan can be made near silent a...

Hi Guys and Gals, I am about to emabrk on my first silencing project.
