Same thing happens with mine, but I usually don't notice it. Just stick it behind your desk or something or buy a new one, the time/cost/effort put into modding it probably won't even help that much anyway.

Haha, cool good to know! All that's really left for me is *maybe* new fans, patching my quiet 120mm to my fan controller (currently has full molex, needs a mobo connector, been to lazy to solder one on), and getting a second silent/quiet hard drive. After that I think I'm done with it, if there's an...

How quiet can it get?
Barring exteme measure, how quiet can one's PC actually get? Mine has gotten near silent, but sitting in silence with the machine 2 feet from my head I can still hear it. Just wondering what level of silence you guys achieve.

Western Digital Caviar SE drives (Model number WDxxxxJB, where 'xxxx' is the capacity plus a zero, i.e. 200GB would be WD2000JB, 250GB is WD2500JB, etc). Why? 1. At my old company we used these exclusively in our servers. We must have had nearly 100 of these drives running 24x7x365 and I can't recal...

Modern Western Digital WD2500JB 250GB drive...quiet?
I know that WD drives are known to be loud (I own several) but, noise issues aside, I feel they're the best and most reliable drives hands down. Not only that, but I have found a really good price on a 250GB drive. I need lots of storage for video work. So, my question is are the modern WD's quieter...

Well, the front fan is far from the loudest thing in my system, and at 7V it's near silent. I guess plugging the hole is more important to me. Since having a direct path for sound to escape from is never good, what if I made it an indirect path? I could shape some foam to accomplish this, like make ...

Plugging up front fan vent?
I have a side case fan that will intake for the CPU, as well as holes in the side of my case for passive intake. With this in mind do you think it would be OK to remove my front case fan? My hard drives are up in the 5.25" bays in enclosures so there's nothing in the front/bottom of my case. I was t...

Cool, so they're crap :) How about this - I have some sponge rubber I plan to make into washers to decouple my fans, but oh course they can still transmit vitration through the screws into the case. I then though of double-washer-ing the setup so there'd be one on the screw head side and one on the ...

I don't *think* CF cards are bootable, and even fast ones would be slow compared to a real hard drive... I think your best bet would be to do what you plan with the crap machine but just get a quiet 2.5" drive (prob cheaper than a big/fast CF card anyway). Then just put the drive in a box, fill it w...

Modded Vantec EZ Swap2 for silence
Hi Guys, Just recently got into silent computing after tiring of 'extreme' cooling setups and here's my first mod. This was to silence my two Western Digital 'Special Edition' WD1x00JB 8MB cache drives. These drives are notoriously loud. I bought two Vantec EZ Swap2 drive bays for $26 each at a loca...

Dynamat for sound dampening?
I'm also a car audio enthusiast and dynamat isn't ultra expensive and can be used to sound-dampen a car pretty well - how does it hold up in a PC? Anyone have any experience with this stuff? For the weight, price, and thickness it seems to beat out having huge foam pads in one's case.

Fan De-coupling
Hi All, I know about those little rubber fan decoupler-grommet thingies you can get at EndPCNoise.com, but what about the Vantec Fan Dampener Kits? http://www.svc.com/vafanvidakit.html Reason I ask is 1) they are cheap and 2) they are at a local shop so I don't need to deal with shipping and stuff. ...

Cooler Master Cool Drive enclosure?
Hi All, First time on these forums but a long, long time on ocforums. Long story short, I did everything from extreme air (like 250CFM through my case!) to a 4' bong watercooler, and now I'm getting past that. I can afford to just buy a faster chip rather than beating a budget setup into the top 1% ...
