[quote: :?: Since some of the focus seems to have shifted from the Presidential candidate to that of Vice President, I was curious how SPCR's might change their views if the VP spot was awarded to the runner up, like it was originally? I totally understand the need to keep personal expenditures down, but I would reconsider what you have said - ...$2600 can be built for about $2000 on my own... so you're saying it's a difference of $600 and on your own time would take ...approximately 12-15 hours That's $40 -$50 per hour from the v...

fwiw, just ran across this http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/01/onkyos-hdc-1-0-hd-audio-pc-for-audiophiles/ pretty spendy for what it is and the author notes they "could have packed in an SSD and ULV processor to ace the fan and cut the vibration completely". That does look pretty nice! And it says the m-300 can hold "a PCI card and/or addind [sic] 3.5" drives (2.5" drive installation is also possible)" i guess that means that w/o a PCI card it can old a notebook hdd AND an optical drive? I wish they had a photo of the interior of the case. They don't ac...

All I can say about 400GB Seagate is that it's damn noisy when seeking! A whole lot louder than 400GB Western Digitals that are out right now. I'd seriously suggest you stay away from 400GB Seagates for now. I have on in my computer and it bugs the hell out of me at night. (Although I have really s...

From what I've been told I can only use a standard IDE drive and not a SATA drive. Can someone confirm or deny this? If I can indeed use a SATA drive I should buy one for the extra speed over IDE drives I guess. I've been looking at enclosures for SATA drives. They're out there. I'm looking at some...

Re: HP e-Vectra - first desktop with external PSU?
I found one of these tiny machines in a local second hand PC store and was surprised to find a 6? year old desktop using an external PSU. Is this the first machine to be sold with an external PSU? http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2676/2249/320/P1050768.jpg Don't be misled by the tiny 8" LCD, it m...

The screenshot is correct (my previous statement about 7V is incorrect, I didn't actually check what I said). The main fan will go down to 8V and will stay there. The two OTES fans will go down to 6V and will completely switch off below 6V. (I didn't check that with a voltmeter, that's just the beh...

I have an Abit AN8 Ultra, which is very similar to the SLI version you're considering. It allows 3 fans to be controlled via the BIOS. They can all be controlled from 7 to 12 volt... I just RMA'd my NEC for that BenQ. I think my NEC had some major issues, so take that into consideration - The BenQ is quieter. However, it isn't 'quiet'. When first playing a CD or DVD, it roars pretty loud, then settles down. But if I FF (with either format) it roars away again and then eventually...

To add to Thomas' confusion, and my own, take a look at www.quietpc.com/uk/components.php#dvd They claim that the NEC ND-3540A is "very quiet during DVD playback, which is where quietness is a must!". Of course they do sell it, but still, their whole reputation is riding on being quiet. This is the...

You can check in the BIOS to look for the CPU undervolting -- or if it isn't there, you can use CrystalCPU. Actually, you might check to see if CnQ is actually working: with CPUID. It should drop to 1v and 1gHz, I think? right, I just checked the bios - and there doesn't seem to be anything below t...

Hello, You could undervolt the 3000+ Venice -- with any luck, you can go down by 0.2v or more. Your idle temps should plummet...and you should be able to run the Nexus at 5-8volts! What is the PSU? Does the Abit have a fan (or 2?) on it? What about the video card? Most processors have very high tolerances to heat. The mobile Athlon64s, for example, are rated up to 95*C. I'd recommend keeping it around or under 65*C, though. Also, what power supply are you using? Do you think the Nexus @ 12V is responsible for the majority of the noise coming from your system...

mb support for sata question
k, i'm gonna fly my ignorance flag here.
I suppose that if a motherboard says it has:
"Storage Devices
PATA 2 x ATA 133 up to 4 Devices
SATA 4 x SATA II
SATA RAID RAID 0/1/0+1"
that means it for sure does not support sata150 right?
