ION seemed like a really good idea until the performance specs came out. It turns out that the SPCR posters were right in suggesting that undervolting a better, low-power processor was a better way to get a low-power, quiet media platform. Yes and no. Yes, you can build a better/more efficient syst...

So... Anyone bought one of these yet, and can comment on the acoustics? I bought one (Mac Mini, 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB) to be upgraded to 4GB/320GB. So far I am very happy with the acoustics. I don't have any measurements to go by, but as far as I am concerned it is very quiet. In a relatively quiet ...

Power supply for DG45FC / Silverstone LC09
I need to replace the power supply in a Silverstone LC09 case with something a little more powerful. Anyone tried that ? I was thinking of using something like this : http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ctpower120 I may also go for the pico-PSU 120w, though I guess I don't have strong preferences ei...

I initially installed the SMP client and it pegged the cores at 100% but never seemed to complete anything. I let it go for several days without any indication that it was progressing. If you are using windows, you have to make sure to run install.bat before starting anything. If started correctly,...

Re: SimT Gromacs - I need to vent
I HATE these WU's. My PPD has fallen from 3,000 PPD to 1,000. I thought one of my boxes was down. A quad core running 4 clients is going on 5 days to complete a 343 point WU. A normal WU takes about 24 hours for 600 points. I hate these things. Ok, I'm done. Feel better now ? Mind if I ask why you ...

The only reason the HDMI exists is DRM, so if you have discrete graphics card, you can use the integrated for the extra monitor using plain DVI. DVI is in all respects equal or better than HDMI except if you are running DRM-content under Vista. Not quite... You don't get sound over your DVI cable. ...

The case definitely needs some more air coming into it. Seems the power supply slows the fan down below 40C, so that is pretty much where the temperatures stay... CPU temp and HDD temp both around 42-45 degrees. CPU fan speed seems irrelevant, since the air inside the case is also warm. CnQ not help...

Actually, no.
Check http://www.antec.com/pdf/NSK_family_infor.pdf . The matrix shows the 1300, 2400, 3300, 4400, etc... Though the 3300 isn't all that big either...

Antec NSK1300 ?
I was just looking at the case comparison for the new Antec NSK cases when I spotted the NSK 1300. A microATX case with possibility for 120mm fan in the rear doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. I've been looking for a mATX case that is as little as possible, while still allowing full-size PCI cards ...

Anyone know approximate size ?
Just wondering what size the case is going to be. Too many of the silverstone mATX cases are just as big as normal ATX cases... Hopefully it will be a little bit smaller, at least in depth.

You can check out ZipZoomFly for $139 shipped. But it is currently out of stock, so check every other day. Or click one the bank in stock link. I'll look into that. Thanks for the advice. The system I am upgrading from is a P4 1.5Ghz, (ECS motherboard with SDR/DDR options ) and there are several reasons for the upgrade. - lack of USB 2.0 high speed - need micro-atx motherboard for smaller case (not entirely sure which case yet) - want something a little bit fas...

Socket 754 Motherboard for HTPC
I've been planning a HTPC upgrade, and I figure to go with something in socket 754 for price reasons... I am looking for a good motherboard (micro atx) that can do undervolting. I figure even a sempron 64 2600+ will be overkill most of the time, so I need something I can make really quiet. Unfortuna...

"Short" case for mATX boards ?
I'm looking for a case for a HTPC project. However, constraints have it that I want a case that is as short as possible. Width and height aren't all that critical. So far I've found the Antec Aria to be the shortest, at around 33.5cm, but I am trying to find something shorter... any clues out there ?

Silent DX9 card with proper macrovision support
Having tried my MX400 card for a new DVD player/entertainment system I realized that the TV-out signal does not properly support macrovision, which makes DVDs really hard to play (assuming signal going to TV). Other requirements are: cheap (relatively, less than $75) And no, there was no VCR involve...
