Re: Zotac H55-ITX-C-E: Stacked LGA1156 Mini-ITX Motherboard
I read in the reviews on NewEgg that the board actually only supports 6 SATA if you run them with the BIOS RAID. If you want JBOD then you only get 3 drives, and there are apparently serious issues with simultaneously accessing them from Linux, too. Can someone who has this board confirm this? If so...

I've always been impressed with the thorough way that SPCR performs its tests compared to many other sites, but here I have a small problem with the test methodology: I don't think it's valid to say that just because the CPU was fully stressed with CPUburn, it will consume the same amount of power w...

RMA'd
I finally RMA'd my PSU due to the fan not coming on all the time when starting from cold. Unfortunately the one I got back has a much louder fan, with a low grinding-type noise which is totally noticeable with the case closed even at minimum rpm. Kind of disappointing.

My hard drive mounting solution
I got the MI-008 and D945GCLF2 for a home file server after reading this review, and I'm quite pleased with it. However, like the review said, a hard-mount drive really makes a racket when seeking. Completely unacceptable, sounds like a tin drum... Thinking about a solution that would muffle the dri...

But really, that would be my "fun" answer. My more serious answer and my intention to assemble the next time I move would be a hardware router such as the asus WL-500g or Linksys wrtsl54gs with dd-wrt and some USB storage. it should be able to run a number of server-type applications. And it should...

Don't know that it would help, but do you have the rear around the psu covered? I have mine blocked off with electrical tap nice and neat, therefore no heated air can come back in from the back. Doubt it does much at all, but it couldn't hurt. Yeah, I've done that, too. I also took some time to try...

Preventing PSU from ramping up in P180?
Hi all, I noticed something funny with my new Enermax Modu82+ 625 PSU in my P180 case. Even though the Enermax plot of fan speed shows the PSU fan to stay at 450rpm up to >300W DC, at 260W DC mine is at 820rpm. However, it only does this when mounted in the case, not when running on the desktop. Rem...

I thought this thing about the differing power consumptions of the various 775 CPUs was very interesting. Does anyone know of a survey where the idle and load powers of the different models are measured? Like, for example, if the LGA775 Celerons use less power than that Wolfdale? They have lower TDP...

I just got a Modu82+ 625W based on the SPCR review. It really is quite quiet... In fact, the fan doesn't even start up for many minutes when the system is started... it moves a little but doesn't spin up. I wonder if that means it's defective, too much friction? It settles down at 450-500 rpm ...

Converted my machine to water cooling
Hey all, I just ventured into water cooling. I've had my air cooled P180 box with a Core2Duo and X1900XT for over 2 years, and it's been very quiet (at idle at least). I use this machine for some gaming, so I want it to be reasonably powerful, but I also do a lot of coding, research writing and phot...

Has anyone done a P180 mod where they replaced the feet on this case so it is taller and cut a hole out of the bottom of the case and ducting it so the PSU gets room temp air from the bottom and out the back. It doesn't seem that would be an advantage since then you will remove the PSU-driven air f...

Re: Very bad experience with an Antec SU-380, suggestions ne
To make matters worse, the power supply will not fully power down the machine. The computer shuts down, but the fans are still running. Did you mean standby, or do the fans run when the computer is completely off? If it's standby, it usually means the computer has gone to S1 instead of S3 which can...

My bad, the system still crashes with the 495W PSU... I don't know why it didn't initially, but it repeatably does now. Same as with the 380, crashes with OB sound, not with SB. And yeah, I have the latest realtek drivers. Might try updating the bios but the changelog doesn't say anything was change...

You say it should have a DC power draw of 185W... I'd say it's time to measure it and find out how much power is pulled from AC during game peaks. One thing we don't always know about is short term peaks imposed by games, vidcards and CPUs (we're talking about well under 1s), what impact these peak...

How about this: I have a Seasonic S12-380 powering a system with a DFI Infinity 975x/g mobo, an E6400 and a power-sucking ATI X1900XT video card, plus odds and ends. This system has a DC power draw at full cpu and video usage of about 185W, so this should be plenty margin for this PSU. However, I wa...

P180 experiences
Hi all, I've had the P180 for maybe 6 months now, and right now I'm running it with a Core2Duo E6400 CPU/Scythe Ninja and a "space-heater" ATI X1900XT video card. I'd like to share my experiences with heating and noise levels. (Beware this post ended up being kind of long, but if you want ideas for ...

Yes, all that stuff that the Maxtrix Orbital can do is very nice, and very useful...but the reason that it came off looking badly next to the Cooldrive 6 is the amount of work required to get it to do the sorts of stuff that SilentPCReview readers would want it to do, namely control fan speeds. All...
