Meh, if I were you, I'd just flip that plate over and apply a bit of work, such that the PSU is on top of the two fan grills with the fan pointing down. Doesn't this gives it more fresh air, a clearer exit path, better proximity of fan to components, and minimal work done? Regarding the dead-zone an...

Maybe his other PC is in the same room and is very loud, that's why he needs another silent solution. Given that you torrent overnight, I can guess that you're going to download a lot, in which case a 4GB or 8GB drive may not be sufficient in the long run if you want to be convenient instead of tran...

Power vs voltage vs clockspeed. Need proof/verification
Summary: I need someone to help me measure CPU power @ various voltages/clockspeed and find the relation Ok, first off we have P = V^2/R -> Power proportional to voltage ^ 2 Then we have the (not so?) common-sensical (yet unproven) Power proportional to clockspeed But, I have a feeling that both ar...

Nice job. Though I must say you must have some kind of super hearing because I have two NeoHE 430s and both are silent. Maybe you had a bad fan? Maybe you just haven't heard it yet. It's a blessing. :) (I don't mean that it's loud, but it can be heard, maybe bad fan batch...) I also believe that th...

I LUV SMALL PROFILE!!! Or rather, I don't understand why "HTPC" cases should be fatter than P180. Looking at the wattages of stock PSU vs pico, the first thing that came to me is "wow, 21W needs to be removed using a 50mm fan with little area for heat dissipation". When an external PSU was all it to...

So close, yet so far. With only the S12-430's fan in the system the loudest thing is a WD3200KS (which beat and replaced a P120 both in idle & seek). With an inch of sponge, seeks are almost gone. BUT still there. And this KS has a softer seek and a louder seek (like with AAM disabled, except this h...

thanks for that. i've read that they make alot of server psu's, and a review on a different model from them was pretty positive. i guess its just the efficiency then, unfortunately the one available from my local shop is rated at 500w- which is way overkill. since it doesn't have a 80+ rating i'll ...

Power options under Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance? It's auto-off after the duration you set e.g. 5min of non-activity, you'll hear the HDD spin down and suddenly the room got quieter. When you access the drive, it spins back up. -> Problem is, you never know when Windows will access t...

This drive (ST3250410AS) has very high ratings at NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148262 There are several comments about it being very quiet. Has Seagate soured all of you to the point that no one is trying this drive? Are these reviewers simply too accustomed to no...

If the 250GB 7200.10 are ST3250410AS (as I managed to google it out), then I guess I've seen those. Nah, seeks are loud. I haven't touched the WD ks/aaks before, but even when compared to P120 and Barracuda IV, It's still loud. Never got to test the idle though, coz it was for a client's computer an...

I'm also interested to know which is quieter especially the seeking part. The dbA values in the reviews of Samsung vs WD don't tally with the reviewer's opinion - that the Samsung is louder than the WD even though the dbA is slightly lower. When I heard the mp3 myself... somehow there is too much wi...

And aside from XP-120, another old, relatively small hsf that can provide good performance with minimal airflow is the CNPS-7000, but you'd have to change the fan to get it really quiet and without affecting performance much. :) Oh and...

Nice findings. How are the temps and how old are both fans (the NeoHE fan and the S12)? And one reason why the Earthwatts is softer: originally it uses the high-speed varient of the said Adda fan. So the voltage it feeds got to be lower for noise level to be even acceptable (and also suggesting that...

Even if the heatpipes are blown (assuming the liquid has disappeared due to unknown reasons), the empty copper pipes can still conduct heat (and they're thicker than normal heatsink fins), and at least the fins at the bottom directly connected to the copper block and eventually the CPU should be hot...

yes, but if you are constrained within the ATX form factor you have to use a relatively smaller fan; so the trade-off is better airflow layout but smaller fan which has to spin faster to produce same airflow as 120mm (more noise). That's why I'd wish to see an update on the form-factor... If IBM (o...

Some thoughts on PSU design...
I've always wondered if the 120mm intake fan is actually better than the 80mm exhaust, especially when some of the newer high-power PSUs are switching to 80mm. The 120mm confirm doesn't blow the more than 2.25x ((120/80)^2) amount of air it should if both fans are blowing... well... erm... forward, ...

Silently cooling a Venice... ON STOCK HSF!!!
I'm currently doing it now. Undervolted to 1.1V @ 1.9ghz, air con @ 24 degrees, motherboard outside of case. 70mm fan @ 22% PWM giving 968rpm ~65 degrees @ load, that's what the temp sensor says. The same temp sensor tells me this undervolted CPU hits 49 degrees with a Ninja (>70 un-undervolted btw)...
