Meh, if I were you, I'd just flip that plate over and apply a bit of work, such that the PSU is on top of the two fan grills with the fan pointing down. Doesn't this gives it more fresh air, a clearer exit path, better proximity of fan to components, and minimal work done? Regarding the dead-zone an...

Maybe his other PC is in the same room and is very loud, that's why he needs another silent solution. Given that you torrent overnight, I can guess that you're going to download a lot, in which case a 4GB or 8GB drive may not be sufficient in the long run if you want to be convenient instead of tran...

You can try rolling up a few pieces of paper into a funnel shape and place the wider end to your ear, it helps to pinpoint the source. I managed to find the exact coil that was making the sound this way.

I believe many of us here are having 3.5" suspended in mid-air, some of us here (like me) having the HDD resting on foam, and not worrying about cooling. My Barracuda IV is still functional despite being ran 24/7 like that @ >50 degrees.

So why worry about a cool-running 2.5"?

Power vs voltage vs clockspeed. Need proof/verification

Summary: I need someone to help me measure CPU power @ various voltages/clockspeed and find the relation Ok, first off we have P = V^2/R -> Power proportional to voltage ^ 2 Then we have the (not so?) common-sensical (yet unproven) Power proportional to clockspeed But, I have a feeling that both ar...

Nice job. Though I must say you must have some kind of super hearing because I have two NeoHE 430s and both are silent. Maybe you had a bad fan? Maybe you just haven't heard it yet. It's a blessing. :) (I don't mean that it's loud, but it can be heard, maybe bad fan batch...) I also believe that th...

I LUV SMALL PROFILE!!! Or rather, I don't understand why "HTPC" cases should be fatter than P180. Looking at the wattages of stock PSU vs pico, the first thing that came to me is "wow, 21W needs to be removed using a 50mm fan with little area for heat dissipation". When an external PSU was all it to...

So close, yet so far. With only the S12-430's fan in the system the loudest thing is a WD3200KS (which beat and replaced a P120 both in idle & seek). With an inch of sponge, seeks are almost gone. BUT still there. And this KS has a softer seek and a louder seek (like with AAM disabled, except this h...

Nice findings. How are the temps and how old are both fans (the NeoHE fan and the S12)? And one reason why the Earthwatts is softer: originally it uses the high-speed varient of the said Adda fan. So the voltage it feeds got to be lower for noise level to be even acceptable (and also suggesting that...

yes, but if you are constrained within the ATX form factor you have to use a relatively smaller fan; so the trade-off is better airflow layout but smaller fan which has to spin faster to produce same airflow as 120mm (more noise). That's why I'd wish to see an update on the form-factor... If IBM (o...

Some thoughts on PSU design...

I've always wondered if the 120mm intake fan is actually better than the 80mm exhaust, especially when some of the newer high-power PSUs are switching to 80mm. The 120mm confirm doesn't blow the more than 2.25x ((120/80)^2) amount of air it should if both fans are blowing... well... erm... forward, ...

Check the mounting holes' surroundings for circuits. If there isn't any even without the washers it can still work.

If yes, poke a few holes on a piece of paper and put your screws through it kinda like a backplate.

Silently cooling a Venice... ON STOCK HSF!!!

I'm currently doing it now. Undervolted to 1.1V @ 1.9ghz, air con @ 24 degrees, motherboard outside of case. 70mm fan @ 22% PWM giving 968rpm ~65 degrees @ load, that's what the temp sensor says. The same temp sensor tells me this undervolted CPU hits 49 degrees with a Ninja (>70 un-undervolted btw)...
