It's not just the cheapness, it's the convenience. I have many molex to molex + fan Y-splitters, and all I need is to daisy chain and all the fans are 5Ved with one customized splitter.
Not that I have many fans nowadays but... it makes for a quick quieting of loud systems with many fans.

Lol why didn't I think of that one b4. Considering the size of the "cooler" surface area and the amount of heat a PSU can generate in real-life situations, and that the components can handle temperatures way above that of CPUs, this sounds practical and most importantly, easy (compared to the ...

Unless they are actively interfering with each other, why not use both? That way, if SpeedFan crashes, BIOS should take over. Of course, if BIOS does everything you want, just use that, but if that were the case why would you be using SpeedFan in the first place? Mine do interfere with each other -...

It wouldn't be nice if a CPU designed for notebooks would throttle @ 71C, since notebooks have poorer cooling. Anyway the max cover temp of notebook Core xxx is 100 so 71 looks safe to me. I wonder would it be possible to mod a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo to ULV, especially Conroes that would be best. I che...

Thermal tape. Good luck finding it though. Are you going to have any sort of fan blowing at the card? If you will, you should be okay without the ramsinks, but if the airflow is going to be that low, you should try to find some. I just found out, the Zalman sandwiches are not going to cool an X800 ...

ZM80C-HP, most effective fan placement?
After deciding that my X800GT runs too hot I've decided to use a fan, and I have 3 choices after considering that the heatsink has "fins" in the inner sides facing the card too: http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/9599/1000321nc2.jpg http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/6092/1000322nm4.jpg http://img68...

That's exactly the kind of buzzing I had with an Abit VA-20. Except maybe it was much louder (audible over a 5000rpm fan). :? For both my cases (PSU and mobo), undervolting or keeping the system cool helps, as well as certain cooler programs (programs that use the HLT command) like AMN Refrigerator ...

Apparently a few of the newer Seasonics are exhibiting coil buzzing under certain load (light, medium, heavy, or whatever combination), but yours sounds serious considering the volume. This is quoted from SPCR's own review of the M12: Surprisingly, our sample had an undue amount of buzzing electrica...

Because the CNPS-7000 was too powerful that's why. It was already available since, 2002? And it's so small (by today's standard), smaller than the 8000. (and by the numbers looks like they threw out the 8000 design for good) I'm thinking that the 8700 will be a killer. Because somehow I have a...

I just wonder why they're bothering to use virtual rails. I've had the opposite scenario before, except it was with an entire system. Re: Antec Solo mod idea - extra exhaust
Well that's not exactly a Solo-only mod , yea I've tried it with a generic casing that had no exhaust. Used it to cool my foamed HDD and a GF2Mx with a broken fan.

Have you checked the noise and temperature of the PSU? Any reason not to consider an open-frame power supply? Because I f***ed myself before with an open-frame PSU placed on top of my computer casing. And I live in 230V country.
