Re: Audio production/Software Dev/Gaming PC build advice

Thx for the response, I will definitely check the cases. Tough to say on CPU , I haven't stressed it on audio, but for my development tasks I'll sometimes run applications doing number crunching or whatever that will peg multiple cores for a while. I'll check out the differences however, good refere...

Audio production/Software Dev/Gaming PC build advice

Hi there, My current i7950 -system seems to have gone kaput, but I've gotten a good 5 years or so from her. I was going to wait until the next generation of Intel but might need to accelerate my new system plans. I'm a few years out of researching the latest in components, and would appreciate any a...

Re: New gaming/music creation Haswell system advice

Cool, makes sense; I haven't considered the reduction in power but that would be a good option. Yep, going mainly with VSTs and only a single/dual mic at most via dedicated hardware streamed over USB or firewire, so hopefully not too much load for those situations. Thanks, this is a good helpful jum...

New gaming/music creation Haswell system advice

Hello, I am building a new system this summer with Haswell chips coming out; I'm around 4 years out of date on the latest tech.. My uses are primarily for music making (Sonar/Ableton) and gaming; every once in a while I'll be doing some family video/photo editing but it's not a primary function. I w...

quietest option for gtx285 or radeon 4890 series

Building a new system and trying to minimize some noise obviously. I've read in a review that the Sapphire 4890 was one of the more quiet options for the 4890 series so I am leaning that way. Is there any GTX 285 board known to be quiet? I'm not looking to overclock or anything, just looking for bes...

Great advice, and good points. I was a little spooked about the Intel SSD degradation over time, but looks like things are maturing (and prices coming down). Am actually thinking of going to the AMD 4890 camp after some consideration (the Sapphire seems to have good noise specs out of the box, and t...

Cooler recomendation for i7 950

With W7 coming out, I thought I'd build up a new system... Wondering what people would think a good cooler option would be for: - i7 950 - EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR motherboard - nexus rx-8500 power - GPU (still undecided, leaning towards MSI SuperPipe OC Geforce GTX 285) - Case (reusing Antec P180 if pos...

Well I was one of the lucky few to get a Premium system last night. Confirmed : For me, it is definitely loud! (Esp comparing to my much more quiet PC created with the help from this site) It seems like the DVD is the culprit (I can live with the noise of the main unit when you are navigating the co...

Has anyone heard whether Arctic Cooling will put out a compatible Silencer for the 7800's? (I read that a new Asus 7800 has one right out of the box). I also have a BFG and it is a great card (and fairly quiet), but I wouldn't mind making it quieter!

FWIW, Dell Small Business recently had the BFG 7800 for 500 (incl shipping and tax); and I actually got mine on Friday after a 2 week backlog. Nice price (you can check hardforum.com in their hot deals section to see if that will happen again, but I'm not sure it will)

recommended for AMD 4800 cooling?

Just got notice from quietpc that the new Zalman 9500 would be delayed until late August or September (drat) I am still interested in that guy, but in the interem I'd like to get the quietest CPU fan possible for a new AMD 4800+ (going on an Asus A8N premium) into a P180 case... What should I go for...

Yikes, I'm in the same boat (just bought a Deluxe) and it's on it's way; i guess I'll need to RMA it, but it's worth the restocking fee just to avoid the hassle of replacing the Deluxe NB fan.. Sheesh, thought I did all my homework on this guy!

Any particular reason you didn't go with the P180 for your case?

Have you seen the other posts on the subject; specifically, to be aware of the ATX power length on the Seasonic. I am in the same boat, I am leaning towards the same Antec unit you mentioned, but I haven't heard about the cable length issues. This add-on product hopefully makes all of that a moot po...

This site also carries the SilverStone for a little bit cheaper too I think:

I'm also in the same boat (and almost identical components to the ones you're considering)... Just curious, what are you considering for the cpu fan?
