Re: CPU for a silent high performance PC - i7 4790 or 4790k?
I'd say Core i7 4790T. :) That's what I'm typing this with. Went with the T model to avoid underclocking like on my previous Core i5 (Ivy Bridge) setup. Much more straightforward and no need to worry anout mobo options (are there or not). I'm running this with a Asus CS-B (Intel Q87) mobo and in a v...

First of all thanks for replying! :) I don't have an exact budget for my system. I just want it to be as small as possible, without compromising too much, and I try to keep it modestly priced. In terms of performance, I want it to be around what I have now and what I outlined in my first message. Ac...

It seems my topic has been so popular in terms of replies, so I might just as well continue my monologue. :P After some research and thinking, I settled with the following components: PSU: Corsair CMPSU-550VXEU - The 550W big brother of the 450W one, which was reviewed by SPCR and received good cred...

Silent/less [noisy] system II
Some 2,5 years ago I made my first serious attempt on constructing a silent PC, which at the time was something new for me. Now the same ol' system is still up and running (typing this on it), for which I asked advices for here at SPCR. :) Now time has passed and my needs have changed. The current s...

How to adjust VGA fan speed?
I know this may sound like the worst newbie question ever, but I simply can't come up with the solution for the following problem. Right now my PC is pretty silent, except for the Arctic Cooling nVidia Silencer 5 which is cooling my GeForce 6800 GT accelerator. My issue is that I want to lower the v...

Well, finally we have it all assembled and running, after over a month of various delays. :) But that's an another story, so saving you from all boring descriptions of how shipments failed, etc. I've went with the Yesico Open Air as I decided here previously. However on a sad sidenote I had to sell ...

Well, as I said in the other thread, I won't be getting this. 59€ is just damn too much for a Northbridge cooling solution, no matter how noiseless or hi-tech it is. I decided to dump my MSI mobo and ordered an AOpen one which will fit passive Coolermaster cooling. It will be anyway cheaper than thi...

49€ for cooling my nForce 4 Ultra is too steep for my budget. I anyway just went ahead and cut away some of the plastic from my Arctic Cooler nVidia Silencer 5 to get a passive Zalman NB heatsink below it. Oh well, not like my day anyway. First I decide to take the risk of incapacitating the airflow...

I was today looking in a store for noise dampening material, mainly aimed for car and boat engines, but why not also PCs. :) Didn't however buy yet, but sure looks like getting some isolation to avoid bouncing noises would be a good idea. Thanks for the tip! Also got myself a Nexus 120x120 mm for th...

Almost ordered that stuff today. However then realised I can get cheaper stuff for a very DIY solution, so will go to Biltema for some cheap, but okay dampening mats. They have foam and fiber mixture (plastics, tinfoil and what not - can't recall this early in the morning what this type was called a...

Nice looking case but......where does the air enter the front of the case? I assume from some small holes at the bottom of the front bezel. This would normally be raised only a short distance from the floor by four rubber feet. Not good for airflow at all...... Yes, there's a Sonata type gap at the...

I know the case is an issue. I also had a very hard time choosing myself a case, as this time around I was very picky about it. I'm going to move from having my PC on the floor to having it on the table, simply because it takes space I want to accomodate for moving the subwoofer to a better spot and...

I'm still a very new user here, so you don't recognise me yet most likely, but I'm starting to getting hooked on building silent systems. :) I'm now into building myself a new desktop PC for all my needs. First of all AGP isn't the way to go for any better new graphics accelerator. It's just basically killing any Radeon X8xx or GeForce 6800/6800 GT or 7800 /7800 SLX in terms of bus performance. Just like having a GeForce 4 MX in a PCI slot. Of course the GPU is nice and dandy, but the bus becomes a b...

5. Soft feet - Again, inferior to the P180 feet, so I didn't use them. What are these P180 feet (mainly asking for manufacturer) and where can I buy ones? I'm a newcomer around here, but after having read these forums for hours nonstop now, thought would be okay to pitch in a few thoughts. :) A good motherboard manufacturer is one that cares about what people think about their products and not just the profit. Abit has been very much into being overcl...
