Re: My first successful near silent gaming rig

We are very far from that, right now not even a SLI setup can drive current games at 4k.... many are saying that the GTX980 wont be able to in SLI, so another year or two for SLI to drive 4k... then the increments we get on the usual gen to gen basis is close to 25%.... so that would mean at least ...

Re: My first successful near silent gaming rig

Thx you for your kind words, guys. I got beamed into "the show your rig" forum. So I inserted a picture of the internals. As you can see i removed the drive cage for better airflow. You can admire the (lack of) cable management also  The original Scythe fan that was mounted against the ...

My first successful near silent gaming rig

Hi Guys, Been a time that I visited my favourite silent PC site. Just want to share my experiences of my first gaming rig that is near silent. This is about my sixth desktop I assembled myself and the third with the knowledge of SPCR on my side. As most frequent visitors of SPCR know that is ...

Re: Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate Edition

Great review Lawrence, thx. Didn't know about this card. Totally agree on the "recommended" rating. I am considering this one for my next "near silent" allround-PC build. Stepping up from a Saphire HD4850 in my current PC. I am doing some casual gaming alsoo. And when i am going to game on a PC i wa...

Nice review Mike,

Nice mod on the power supply as wel. 8)
Was away for some time but SPCR still is superb!

btw. the L-formed VGA-cable is on my wish-list.
Would be nice if the cable adapter could be bought in The Netherlands, Germany or Belgium.

Keep up the good work

Thanks Felger Carbon for clearing this up!

Loved the altitude info. You must be a scientist (Fan-professor?)

Wiring the Scythe "Plus-fan" to 7 volt should give me a quiet performer then.

Maybe even an replacement candidate (sound wise) for the stock tricool fan of my Sonata II.

How about the Scythe fan supplied with the Scythe Ninja PLUS?

The Scythe site states the fan is:
120 x 120 x 25mm
23.5 dBA at 1200rpm
moving 46,5 CFM

Looking at the specs it is not an SFF-21E
Is it an S-Flex?

Frankgehry is right (again!), about the intake fan on the SPII PSU, It is only 1,5 cm deep. I swaped it for a papst fan 2,5 cm deep mounted on the outside of the PSU. The swap improved the noise level of my HTPC setup. But I can stil hear my PC. The CPU-cooler a Zalman 7700 is now, by far, the loude...

Try the diference in noise with door open and closed. An...

The SPII does heat up the top of the cover a bit. If it does a better Job in removing it´s own generated heat than your Seasonic(?) I cannot judge. Maybe a theoretical approach can shed some light on that: Whats the efficiency of your PSU compared to the reviewed SPII? Lower effiency is more dissipa...

I just installed the PSU gasket from the NoiseKiller kit from Antec. It actually superseeded my expectations, It took care of my noise problem! My Sonata II is acceptable quiet now. I could live with this light hum my Setup makes. Which by the way is: ASUS A8N SLI Premium AMD 3000+ Venice core Zallm...

If you decide to replace the psu fan, you should consider replacing the intake fan with a 25mm fan mounted on the outside that will have more airflow at the same speed Good idea! I red the review a second time and noticed the intake fan is only 20mm. The review is, I forgtot to state before, very g...

The SmartPower 2.0 (450 Watts) comes standard with the Sonata II. The box in wich my Sonata II came stated "Ultra-quiet" and "Virtually silent power". Maybe the SmartPower 2.0 is relatively quiet when tested in a lab environment. Mounted my Sonata it "resonates" the case. With the door closed the no...
