In a week or so, you will find your computer too loud. Well, you're half way correct. My girlfriend's 3GHz P4 Shuttle system is across the room, and I always marvelled how quiet it was. Now, with my new X2 system, I clearly hear her machine's hum. So the real priority is to quiet that system next. ...

Initially I tried running the scythe fanless and with only the Antec PSU sucking out air near it (no chassis fan). Temperature peaked at around 50C idle. Is 40C an acceptable temperature for an X2 chip running fanless and with CnQ disabled(*)? Yes, 40C is reasonable. (though what's your ambient roo...

So, my new rig is running and is now my main system. The quick followups: 1) I was after a much quieter system than my previous one. But I am rather shocked to find that I significantly exceeded my expectations. After monitoring CPU+NB+GPU temps, I reduced the main case fan (12cm Nexus) to 5V, and r...

The Ninja seems like it's becoming the defacto winning cooler for the P180 case. The Ninja works well with the P180's airflow, especially in the amazingly useful and interesting review system: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article255-page12.html My system: X2 4800+, Ninja with a temp throttled 12cm ...

Software for testing fan & temp & voltage status?
I'm in day 3 of my build, now have Windows installed and I'm about to start experimenting with fan, duct, and case cooling arrangements to test noise and heat. What's the best software for monitoring my system temps, like CPU, northbridge, hard drive, and motherboard temperatures? I've used Motherbo...

I suspect that the PSU is fine but the motherboard or wiring may be unhappy. The key clue is that the system STARTS to power up with fans jerking, but then quickly shutting down. This implies that the PSU is turning on the power, but there's likely a SHORT CIRCUIT and the PSU detects the short and s...

Yes, an XP-120 can cool passively, but really, it DEPENDS on having rather brisk case airflow. Even your Zalman 7000-AlCu can do it if you have a lot of case air moving and very low heat CPU. [but the 3800+ is probably mid-low heat, not really low.] A much much better passive cooler would be a tower...

P180 case VGA duct experiences?
I'm going through the cooling/noise permutations and experiments with my P180 case. I talked about the system in this thread: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=24898 But my specific question: Has anyone used the VGA duct on the P180 case, and with what results? The (great!) SPCR revie...

My Seasonics 500 PSU worked fine with a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI. The main power harness has no real slack, but it didn't interfere too badly when routed through the power cable hole. My lower chamber has no fan, so I found routing the power cables though the HD cable hole (and not the power cable hole)...

Ok, day two, I spent about 10 minutes just LOOKING at the system, seeing where I would really need cables to go, and thinking of options. I had several ideas and in 5 minutes of cable pulling, I sorted my rats nest into a reasonably neat layout. One trick was simple, don't run any wires you don't ne...

The problem with my seyup is that in order to have room for the NB47J i had to move the card to the lower slot, and theres an Audigy2 in the lowest pci slot, so theres basically no room for air to circulate around there. That looks like an NF4 Lanparty MB.. am I right? Did you change the MB to SLI ...

Today was the (start) of building. Very interesting case to work with! Some notes: The power harness length of the seasonic + P180 + NF4 lanparty is fine. I was able to mount the PSU right-side-up.. not sure that the upsidown orientation favored by some would even change anything. The P180 is slick....

Probably the nexus, but it's really hard to tell. The Seasonic ramps its big 12cm fan with temperature, though.. so it might be even quieter for a cool computer (like an undervolted Nexus), but will be louder (and definately more airflow) for a hot one. I'd probably say the BETTER cool/dB solution w...

Looks absolutely incredible, the 4000+ and the 7800GTX will run any game at insanely smooth and fast rates. Congrats! Heatsinks are a big topic here on SPCR. I just finished a lot of design work for my X2 4600+ rig, http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=24898 I decided on the Scythe Ninja...

Have you built this yet? How did you manage the cabling? Nope, not yet, the rest of the parts should be arriving tomorrow. I do expect the cabling to be tricky, especially the main MB power. Several people have mounted their Seasonics upside-down which gives extra cable length, so I'll try that tri...

Fan controllers for P180 system?
I've got about half the parts for my new system delivered, the rest are due Tuesday. Description of system here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=24898 This will be a 4800+ system with a Scythe Ninja in a P180 case. I am thinking I may want to tune some of the fans to balance noise a...

An addon, one reason I got the SLI board even though I don't plan on SLI is because it gives you room around your northbridge chip, so you can remove the noisy fan and put a big passive heatsink there. On a non-SLI board, the video slot limits the height of the heatsink. On a SLI board, you can put ...

Designed my new X2 4800+ system, thanks to SPCR
I build a new system every 2-3 years and I've been overdue! So my research into parts led me to the SPCR site, which was amazingly useful, both articles and forums. I've just registered (so this is my first post) but I want to thank everyone for providing such a great source of info. So, for my firs...
