You might want to look into the 4870 1 GB instead. Performance is very similar and it's 13 db according to SPCR (vs 15 db of the GTX 260). As a bonus if you're not satisfied with the noise levels you can install an Accelero S1 while the GTX 260 doesn't have an inexpensive aftermarket cooler. The 487...

4870 power play (downclock to save power)
For the 4870 owners have you noticed whether or not powerplay works with this card? It seems like the core clock speed is stuck at 750 even with no games running. Is it just me or is this a widespread issue?

GTX 260 power save with dual monitors
It's a known issue that the Nvidia 2xx series of cards will not downclock properly when multi monitors are used. This results in the card running hotter and with higher power usage at all times.
Does anyone know if this affects the fan speed? Does the fan run faster as a result?

AFAIK the Mac Pro's hard drives are hard mounted to the case. Hard drives contribute a large amount to overall noise especially if they're not suspended, so I have doubts about the Mac Pro's so called silent noise level. It's probably silent relative to the machines Dell and HP make (which are loud)...

120mm fan on the stock 4870 cooler?
I'm thinking about getting the 4870. Is it possible to just hook up a 120mm Scythe fan using zip ties on this and disable the stock fan? I can't imagine the stock fan being able to push much more air than a 120mm even at low voltages. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121288 [...

Yes it will stutter. Write speed bottleneck has nothing to do with it. We're talking about under 1 MB/s write speeds causing this issue. As Mike said you probably won't find one that will work with that old laptop. I'd dump the Compaq and pick up a cheap netbook. You'll get much better performance, ...

Price is very attractive, but the size bothers me a bit. I have the first version of the infinity and working with it is a hassle. The size of the heatsink makes changing memory difficult and the rear case fan cannot be cleaned without removing the entire motherboard on a P180. I think you can proba...

The Corsair SSD seems to be the hidden gem. I see no mention of a warrenty on this item whatsoever. Corsairs warrenty page doesnt even list this product. http://www.corsair.com/warranty/default.aspx No warrenty = Crap, in my book. It has a 2 year warranty according to the NCIX and Tigerdirect produ...

The Corsair SSD seems to be the hidden gem. It uses a Samsung controller instead of the usual JMicron so it doesn't have the stuttering issue (at least according to what few user reviews are out there). Prices are pretty reasonable, 50% more storage for the same price as the Intel X-25M. The read pe...

I decided to take your advice and give suspension a shot. What a difference! The problem with the Scythe Quiet Drive is that it's pretty much still mechanically connected to the case so every bit of vibration gets transferred. With the suspension method the case no longer acts as a giant amplifier t...

I think you're right about the vibrations and I might take it apart to try to tighten some screws and reseat it to see if it will help. The Scythe tries to decouple from the case with it's mounting system but it is pretty ineffective. I might try to put it on a piece of foam instead to reduce vibrat...

Do drives get noisier as they get older?
I've got a Samsung SpinPoint T 320 GB hard drive which is supposed to be one of the quieter drives on the market stuck in a Scythe Quiet Drive. It's definitely the loudest thing in my computer right now (The other noise makers are 2x Scythe Slipstreams at 5v and a Neo HE 550 watt power supply). I do...

Mike, with both boards you reported HDMI issues. If I am going to buy a board with an HDMI output, it would be for a HTPC. Sub-par HDMI output is a showstopper. Do you think these issues are due to your kind of non-standard 1440x900 monitor? According to this review, that monitor is about a year ol...

Might pick this up over the WD 320 since it seems like the WD 320 is slower than the WD 640 by design. There were some comments about how some are loud and there are dual platter stock still floating around.

I've owned the Raptor 150 and to be honest I was not that impressed with it and sold it for a Samsung 320 GB. These Raptor drives might produce really nice HD Tach benchmarks but I question the benefits for most users. The benchmarks that show things like game load times puts the Raptor only a few s...

Hi, What are the HDTach seek times for the HD321KJ with and without AAM? 16.6 with AAM 14.3 without AAM.
