 hm. I have a bit to learn, it seems.

I long since "filled up" the desktop (at 1600x1200 it took a while) and have had to resort to turning the icons off.

Every so often I clear things out, but I can never get rid of it all. And I keep adding clutter.

I'm currently in the process of ordering my dream machine, and am finding it very hard to wait, to try things out for myself. I thought at one stage that this was caused by having two fah-core's running. (I had initially installed the GUI version by mistake, and after removing that and installing the console version, I found that the GUI version was re-starting itself on boot.) However, that doesn't make too much sense, gi...

The loudest PC I have ever heard belongs to a friend (and lives in his garage). It has 4 "Delta 120mm Ultimate High Speed Fan TFB1212GHE" 220CFM at 65.0 dB, and basically a wind tunnel. http://www.pccasegear.com.au/category184_1.htm Well, I've been clearly been hanging around spcr too much - I'd no...

I have just ordered an MSI 6600LE. It'll be some time before I can tell you what it is like, but it might be useful for me to share my thought processes: My requirements aren't high. Great article

Nicely written, Ralf - sounds like you had fun! A couple of minor typos, both on page 6. Firstly, most likely because there was not fan for the HDD in the Sonata. and secondly, I believe it's spelled "whoosh", not woosh :) Which just leaves me with one problem. How to decide between a P150 and a P18...

Any experience of fan converters?

I came across these the other day, and wondered why I hadn't heard more about them on spcr.

The idea is to use a large (quieter, more efficient) fan on top of the existing heatsink.

Does anyone have any negative experience of this technique?

Plus also

You have a lot of choice here, I think. Your motherboard is very new, and a brief check of ebay suggests you might be able to sell it, and buy a replacement board, with a layout which makes better use of your existing kit.

You could even potentially save some money on the deal.

OH and about dual-core, if you go this get the base one, the 3800, and put it on that board. One of the only boards out that is already configured for dual core. (gigabyte, abit, asus and epox all said that they do not recommend buying dualcore without flashing to modern bios). This is a concern fo...

I just had a look at the pictures of the two motherboards in question, on ASUS' website. I see what you mean - the chipset cooling solution for the A8N-SLI Premium looks to be superior.

Plus, the feature set looks better on that board. I think that's my best ASUS bet then.

I'm planning a complete new system, and am trying to decide on the motherboard. Having done my homework (reading articles and forums here at spcr), I'm pretty sure now of my requirements: - must support an AMD X2 chip, and use an NVidia chipset - I'd like the latest and greatest features - I'm not t...

Checksums don't match

Well, I seem to be having a difficult introduction to Folding@Home. As mentioned in a previous topic I had a checksum problem, close to the end of my first (and very long) project. It restarted from scratch, and several days later, eventually finished. Last night I was expecting to finish my second ...

Thanks Pete, Neil!

It seems that project just required Tinker, whatever. I've since loaded other projects (big problems; I'll start a new topic) and they have been using Gromacs.

Serious kudos to dedogs, too for the awesome sig helper!

Update: yes, my username and team number are correct. However, I think I've found the cause of the problem. My machine had been restarted several times (4 I think) over the first 3 days. Thank you Neil! I wasn't trying to make a point about having a slow machine, and I didn't mean to imply that FAH wasn't working - it's just fine. I've now finished 130 frames. Tinker?

Hello. I'm new to Folding@Home (and to spcr too, actually; I'm supposed to be planning my next PC, but I kinda got distracted). I have installed the text-only software on my IBM Thinkpad (R50p, 1.7Ghz Intel Pentium M) and it's busy churning through the first WU (400 frames - will take another couple...
