Re: HFX Classic build
Sweet build, I like the massive overkill of everything :) But defeating the strain relief on the power supply cable scares me. Strain relief is there for a reason and that's so the strands inside don't break. I've had to debug issues at work where a wiring harness works intermittently -- usually the...

Re: DH61AG versus more orthodox board
I didn't see a power cord included on Intel's site for that board, nor did I find any images of the inside of your machine. But I did see that unless that motherboard has an unusual rear panel arrangement and is installed upsidedown, any cooler you get will have to be 1U. Unless you get a board wit...

DH61AG versus more orthodox board
So I've got this DFI R100 industrial PC, which currently has a Pentium 4 system in it with a 1U power supply and high speed fan on the heatsink that are each about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. What I'm going to do with it is rip out all the guts and replace them with Sandy Bridge ITX board, i3-2100,...

Re: Noctua NF-F12 "Focused Flow" PWM Fan
It reminds me of the Delta FFB series. http://www.delta.com.tw/product/cp/dcfans/download/pdf/FFB/FFB120x120x25.4mm.pdf Apparently these series of fans has been referred to as Focussed Flow way before Noctua. https://www.google.com/search?q=delta+focussed+flow&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:...

Re: Quiet, small-ish non-gaming build for Linux
I don't really understand why you say some Z68 features aren't supported in Linux, then go on to select a Z68 board. Choosing a H67 board will save you about $50, and you can get an Intel-brand board which are known to be more power efficient. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=62305&vpn=BOXDH67BLB3&manu...

FS Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H AM3 motherboard
Hi, I'm building my am3 system into micro atx case now, so I want to sell my full ATX motherboard. Here it is, it's a GA-880GA-UD3H from Gigabyte. It can control two 3-pin fans by BIOS control but it doesn't respond to SpeedFan. I can't speak to its 4-pin fan support because I lack such fans. Here's...

Re: Silent rackmount case?
Some Silverstone Lascala HTPC cases have optional rack ears. But if you want a purpose-built rackmount case, the Antec Take4 (designed, in fact, for audio production racks) was well reviewed a few years back but isn't widely available anymore. It'd be easy enough to quiet down any El Cheapo 4U case ...

Re: mATX Overclocked Gaming mini tower - Which case?
Cases with the PSU over the CPU heatsink area gross me out just because that's a P3 era ATX case design trope and case design has evolved so much since then. But thats just a personal prefereance. Have you checked out the Fractal Design Core 1000? It has very open front to back ventilation which cou...

What happened to all the coolers that exhaust outside?
I was just on Newegg today looking for a new cooler for my desktop's HD4850. (the stock cooler isn't temperature controlled and doesn't exhaust outside of the case) then I noticed that not a single one of the coolers currently offered for sale exhausts outside of the case. Why is this? What happened...

Re: mini itx: AM3 or start over?
The 945 was great for me when I did use it. Im considering starting over for efficiency reasons, my concern is that the Phenom + 4850 or even without the 4850 will be too hot to cool quietly in a mini itx case. I could go to a sugo or q08 instead of isk or mi008 but those are also less small.

Re: Mini-Itx Core i3
Why a high end h67 board instead of a more basic h61? It seems like a h67 board would have more integrated devices thus consuming more power. Also check out the i3 2100t low power processor.

Re: mini itx: AM3 or start over?
Also, as far as a Sandy bridge setup I would be looking at a board with dual digital video outputs, and an i5-2400S. I'm currently considering the ASUS P8H61-I . Lack of integrated wireless is a concern to me, but I could always put a USB wireless card off an internal header and run antennae pigtail...

mini itx: AM3 or start over?
Last year I built a Phenom II X4 945 system in a mid-tower case but it's been sitting in my parents basement because carting around a desktop doesn't make sense for me as a student. However, now I'm getting the urge to have something more powerful than my laptops but it has to be small. So, my quest...

The NSK3480 is also fine but you'll need both 92mm front fans with that GPU. Are you sure? It doesn't seem like a half height passively cooled card would output that much heat. micro ATX towers with 120mm fans
I'm going to build a Micro ATX system for college in about six months. I've specced it out already (obviously, when I go to build, specs may change based on what's up to date) except for the case. Here are the specs: Athlon X4 630 with retail HS/F Radeon HD4350 8GB DDR3 2x500GB 3.5" drives in RAID 1...
