19" Monitor with external power adapter?
People familiar with my posts know that I make some relatively esoteric choices when it comes to finding/building quiet products. :) I'm in the market for a 19" monitor and I've noticed that PC monitors have changed in their design over the past 5 or so years. One obvious change is the embedding of ...

...either way, such a tiny heatsink and screamer fan for the CPU, even being mobile, why not go all out? could easily go semi passive with one 500RPM fan to keep things in check. i also see a couple SATA connectors at the bottom of the board, you could expand on your storage and speed a lot with th...

...So, for fan control I use AA1 Fan Control. Very simple and works very well...you just set the temp that you want the fan to come on. I use 64C and it stays off 99.9% of the time, even watching movies. Thanks Treker this is good to know. I might consider getting an AA1. I had forgotten a previous...

Hiya, Open the left side, and take it off. There are three plastic tabs at the front -- pull under them and the front will hinge open (the trick is to open the top or the bottom one first, and then the other two). Thanks very much Neil! So if I do this, will I then be able to gain access from the f...

P150 case
Hi Folks, I have a P150 Antec case and would appreciate help from someone here on how to open the front part of the case to clean the filter. I see there is a hinge but can't for the life of me figure out how to open it! It's been almost two years so the filter probably needs a good cleaning. :) I c...

OK after almost two years I figured it's about time to post some pics of my rig. :) Actually I was waiting until I needed to open up my case before I was going to take the pics (I had forgotten to take the finished build pics a couple of years ago). So these pics were taken a few months ago. I love ...

Re: Asus EEE vs Acer Aspire One
The AA1 is entirely different machine. Much better keyboard and larger sharper screen. I have no problems with typing or seeing text. The build quality is superior. Linpus is okay. I bricked mine one day after getting it by visiting a non Aspire repository looking for a solitaire game. That's when ...

...Maybe someone else can answer if you can boot up from compact flash on laptops that let you plugin cf cards. The card it self would need to support fixed mode. HP's had a notebook for over 15 years that could do that! The Omnibook series 300, 425, 430, 530, 600 etc. could all boot from a flash d...

i thought the soft shutdown is a function of ATX power spec.... ie, you cant do hard shutdowns without damaging something. if you want what you're talking about, i guess build a wayback machine and go back to 1993... Well I guess I discovered a way to get around 'damaging something' because I've be...

FS: Samsung Q1 32G SSD UMPC
This is the real deal folks. It's the 32G SSD (Solid state disk) Q1 UMPC by Samsung in mint condition. This Q1 was purchased just a couple of weeks ago and used for a total of under five hours. There are no scratches or blemishes whatsoever. I am throwing in Samsung's USB keyboard and suede organize...

As I discovered with the first board, the supplied HSF is a POS, runs hot even with the fan at 12V. But it's very short, so you could fit it in a short case.
