If your overclocking your cpu then it is well worth the 40 bucks! If you're just running your pc with the res for the absence of noisy fans, then I would probably skip it ie: non overclocked pc. I was able to increase my overclock settings on my prescott 3.0 from 3.45 to 3.6 and my 6800gt video card...

Res fan cooler
I just bought this from Sharka. My res gets pretty warm during heavy gaming. Hope this thing helps a bit. It should look nice in the dark with the blue light on blue. Add says 20db of noise which shouldn't defeat the quiteness of the res. I'll post results on friday after I install it. http://www.sh...
