Skythe have a new range of PWM 4 pin fans coming. Although they are normal sleeve bearing, so i may not want to mount horizontally on my XP120 in HTPC case.

The Nexus fans (as most) have a three pin mobo header plug so can be plugged straight onto the mobo. They also have the molex as well, so i cut these off. Check how many chassis headers your mobo has, my vanilla P5B has 2, one used for intake and one for exhaust. I then use a splitter to run 2 fans ...

What you are proposing sounds good (see my HTPC in signature). I haven't assembled mine yet, but have done a lot of research in my recent purchases. You can fit a Zalman CNPS9500 (make sure you get the AT version) in that case and is silent at low speed, and will keep your cpu cool enough. The only ...

Must note this is done inside the fan, hence special fans, the pwm signal from the mobo is insufficient to run normal fans this way. I don't understand this note at all. Are "special fans" 4 pin fans that don't have PWM control implemented inside them? It is possible to construct a pwm signal from ...

speed control from mobo utilities
Can anyone verify what software and/or bias settings for mobo control the fan speed in what way? ie Speedfan vrs mobo supplied types. As I understand some software varies speed by cpu usage (load conditions) and some varies speed by temperature readings. Which is more effective? Also some mobo's can...

The 4 pins used on the mobo are (not in order) earth, 12 volt power, pwm power and rpm sensing. 1) Earth - pretty self explanitary. 2) 12v power is just like the 3 pin mobo version and on many (but not all) motherboards this can have a voltage linearly variable with cpu temperature, hence varying sp...

I bought the XP120 second hand without the rubber strips, So i purchased a 120mm fan acoustic dampener gasket. This was on the gasket when purchased. Please Note: Do not use these gaskets in very high temperature locations inside a PC/Server such as attached to a CPU cooler or GPU heat sinks! These ...

[quote="cmthomson"]The tach uses the unmodulated 12V line to produce a clean signal. [quote] Do you think it would be possible to add this wire to the tach generator in the fan?. Or it may be easier to find the coils of the motor, disconect from there current source and add a wire as a fan feed. Thi...

The PWM signal gates the 12V inside the fan, rather than on the motherboard. So what your saying is the PWM wire from the MOBO carrys some varying signal that is used by the fan to control its pwm circuit inside a special fan.(that has a PMW circuit inside it). It is eaither a trigger pulse or a va...

If you are turing off rpm speed sense of the cpu fan by the mobo, then why cant you still use the PWM output of the cpufan header to control the cpu fan? I thought the only problem, was the pwm causes havic with the speed sense, so the 4th wire gives a constant 12v to the fans speed sense circuitry....

I have purchased an Asus p5B and an XP-120. Still gathering parts before build. I have a Scythe 120x25mm or a Nexus 120x38mm(aluminium frame) both 3 wire fans. For NVIDIA 7800 GS (AGP) the next High-End solution to launch is the Accelero S2. Whilst the Accelero S3 is compatible with ATI's X1300/X1600 series and...

My question is, how do I use a 3 wire fan (as most good ones are) off my 4 pin mobo, with mobo controlling speed and sensing correct rpm? I dont think possible. fan vibration dampener on cpu heatsink
Does anybody know if there is a problem using one of the siliceous fan vibration dampeners between a fan and the CPU heatsink? yes a the Zalman JUST fits in without any modifications (no bending fins) according to other SPCR and OCAU members. (ive seen photos). But not one of the vertical 120mm HSF like ninja etc. So there is probably 38mm above the XP120. If I use the XP120 Is this 38mm gap big enough to have a duct above ...

Which would be better to use in a Silverstone LC17 HTPC case, a Thermalright XP-120 with Scythe 120mmfan or CNPS9500 (i have both)? The Zalmann would provide a good blow straight to the rear exhaust fans. Where as the XP120 is one of the most efficient coolers with a quieter fan that also will cool t...

Has anyone heard of any manufacturers releasing a Micro-Atx mobo that is designed to take Core 2 (conroe) cpu yet? Planning to build a HTPC based on conroe, and want to keep size down if possible.
