I used an Antec NeoHE 550 in a P180 case and a P5B MoBo. The only problem I had with cables is the 4-pin 12v cable that has to go to the top of the board. I solved the problem with an extension cable that added 12 inches to this connector and made it easy to reach the top connector and still dress t...

I mounted 3 drives in the lower bay. I found that the fan in my power supply was running so slow (Seasonic S12 430w) that I didn't have sufficient air flow over the drives without using the fan in the lower bay. With that fan in place with reduced speed, the HDD temps stay in the 30's C. I also moun...

I have 3 drives in the lower bay with the fan running at lowest speed. Without the fan, the drives were running in the mid 50's and with the fan they cruise in the 30-35C range. Amazing what a bit of air will do. I also suggest a $.99 fan grille to keep the drive wires out of the fan. A stalled fan ...

I have a new model P180 without the hood and the fan clips are a pair of wires that click into the holes on the sides of the upper drive bay. The 'robust' things you are seeing in the picture are the brackets for the slide out drive trays.

If your P4 connection to the MoBo is at the top and your PSU has a normal length cable, you might need an extension cable to permit you to dress the cable properly. You can get one from BestByteInc.com for a couple of bucks. Also, if you are using the lower cage for your drives and want to use the f...

I tried playing with the fans and ended up with a total of 2 fans (nexus) in the upper bay. One is blowing in through the top opening right onto my Noctua NH9 heatsink. The other is on the empty drive bay drawing air from the front and blowing it on my GPU and Northbridge. Both fans are turned down ...

After playing around with the fan setup on the P180 I ended up with the following. I have a 120 fan mounted in the lower bay between my seasonic s12 PSU and 3 HDD's (2 samsungs and a WD). The fan is slowed to about 7-800 rpm. The PSU fan is also running at 750 and the drives report temps in the 30's...

Furniture Glides work better than wheels

I second the idea by oldabelincoln above. I have been using the super slick furniture glides on the bottom my my tower cases for years. They are cheap (< $10), easy to install (peel and stick) and are big enough so they don't sink into the pile of the carpet. I have never had a case tip over when us...

I installed the fan between the PSU and the drives and opened the vents. That cooled them off a lot. The first time I tried, I didn't wait long enough for them to cool down. I don't know if it is the SMART info or the thermal inertia, but it took 1/2 hour before they cooled all the way down. Now the...

As a matter of fact I am running a Seasonic S12-430 in the case. There is a little warmth coming out the front, but most is going out the back. The area in front of the PSu doesn't appear too toasty, certainly not enough to account for the temp of the drives.

Hard Drive Temp Puzzle

I just moved my system from a Nexus Breeze case to an Antec P180 case and am puzzled by the temp readings on my HDD's. I have 2 Samsung SP1614C that idled at 37C in the Nexus case where they received little or no air flow from the one fan at the bottom of the case. Under load, they jumped up to 45-4...
