Re: Are APC rack mount UPSs quiet enough?

It's nice to finally getting an answer. Thanks. I have read that the fans also come on when the draw from the server(s) is a certain percentage of the maximum load of the UPS, even when on mains power. Remember that power is always being supplied through it, as it regulates the AC waveform. I think ...

Are APC rack mount UPSs quiet enough?

I need to get a rack mount UPS as I have been experiencing power-losses recently, which are usually very rare in London. Someone I know said that people are stealing the copper for its scrap value, but I don't know what he was on about. I do not want to get one which is noisy when online (using main...

HP ProLiant MicroServer resonating fan noise

What is it called when a fan making an undulating noise again? Is it resonating?

Anyway, this is happening with a HP ProLiant MicroServer, which has a single 120mm case fan (and a PSU fan I think).

What can I do about this?

Thanks.

Thanks, but I don't think it will work, as the server will shut down at anything less than 10000rpm. I have just tried connecting a Zalman CPNS9700-NT (PWM) and it works fine, so it looks like the CPU HSF has been solved - as long as it physically fits in. Even though this is a AMD Opteron server, t...

I am resuming my quest to make this noisy server quieter. @aztec I cannot physically fit a non-PWM fan onto the motherboard header. If I was to cut of one of the notches on the fan socket, which end do I cut? @SebRad This Zalman cooler does not actually have a PWM fan. I suppose I could just cut one...

Thanks. I have been trying to RMA it, but the company that used to distribute Seasonic PSUs in the UK (Nanopoint) no longer do it, and I have been having problems getting in contact with Seasonic in Holland. In the mean time I have bought a Silver Power 400W PSU that Nanopoint say is made by Seasonic.

Is the Seasonic S12II-380 overrated?

I bought a Seasonic S12II-380 about a year ago, on the strength of this review. I am very happy with it, apart from one thing, which has only now become a real problem for me: I do not think it actually gives out its rated output. My HTPC will not boot when I have two HDDs installed. When I try to s...

Thanks porkchop.

My motherboard does allow changing the QFan2 monitoring between voltage and PWM.

So, what is the point of PWM then, if voltage control is just as good?

Fan request: 92mm PWM fan that runs at 1000rpm MIN

I am desperately looking for a quiet 92mm PWM case fan that runs no slower than 1000rpm at its minimum speed. I need two of them. One for modding a Zalman CPNS9500, and the other as a rear case fan. The reason why they have to run no slower than 1000rpm through PWM, is because I am trying to make an...

Asus QFan2 - is PWM control that much better than voltage??

I have just bought a Zalman CNPS9500 AM2 cooler for a computer I am trying to make quieter. I've only just realised that it does not control the fan speed by PWM, but has a Fan Mate 2 control instead. I thought that the nickel-plated version differed from the copper version, in having PWM, but I see...

Modding Antec Fusion Black for 1/4″ headphone jack

I do not have an Antec Fusion case, but I was wondering how hard it would be to modify the case for a 1/4″ headphone jack, like that found on hi-fi equipment. I also intend to fit a CMoy headphone amplifier inside the case. How hard would it be to drill the existing 3.5mm jack hole, and replace th...

How can I slow down 120mm fans with molex connectors ??

I have just bought a Thermaltake Armor full tower case that comes with a couple of 120mm blue LED fans. They look pretty cool, but they are too noisy. They spin at around 1450-1490 rpm according to the Asus motherboard software that I am using. I have other components that I want to quieten down, bu...
