I suppose you have another PC... you can connect your flash drive to that PC install linux, create a kernel image with all possible drives inside and then put the drive inside the ARTIGO. You will probably have to edit grub options at boot console and things like that but if you know some linux it i...

+ HDDs have not been silenced with watercooling. (they don't have fans, but they still make some noise). Indeed there are some HDDs waterblocks around and you can just slap them to your HDD and entomb it in foam to dump its noise. Unfortunately when I had a watercooled pc (with a passively cooled "...

You can use a maximum of 3 GBs of ram on a 32bit system (if you put 4GBs it will work, but just use 3GBs). If you need more than 3 GBs you must install a 64bit version of Windows.

Hi,
I'm writing from a PC with a Geforce 7300LE using two 19" LCD (1280x1024 each). The card is really cheap and is enough for a dual monitor setup provided you don't need two DVI connections.

Good site with tech specs for LCDs

This site is the best source of technical specs for almost all LCD monitors on the market.

Thanks to their review I bought two HP LP monitors: a 1965 and a 2065.
As already stated try to avoid TN panels and you will get better dark tones too.

I've enclosed the drive in a Seagate "seashield" (that plastic thing they use to ship HD) sandwiched between foam on top and a small coolpack on the lower side. The drive has been on for more than three days 24/24 and it reached 30 C and stabilized there. The clicking sound is now softer and I can't...

If you put it upside down though, that'd be bad for it to disappate the heat, since it's top side (non-pcb side) is the heatsink itself for the drive. That's the part that needs to be cooled. I don't think this is right, since HD top is only a cover, while the remaining of the metal body is a singl...

Same problem here with an 80GB momentus 5400.3: loud sharp clicking noise when the drive is idle. I bought this drive to replace a "meowing" hitachi deskstar and now I get this clicking sound  I'm going to heavily enclose this drive during next days to see if I can mute the clicking sound. Def...

When I need to cool an hard disk (and not to silence it), for some relatives or friends of mine I just screw on the sides heatsinks salvaged from dead PSU internals. They do lower the temperature of the disk (especially if you use thermal paste). Otherwise if you want to both cool and silence the HD...

I was thinking of a substitute for gel packs too. The problems I see with oil are two: 1) it could probably break the plastic bag as noted by BillTodd 2) when heated oils expands a lot compared to standard gel packs I was thinking of doing some experiments with silicon grease or zinc or copper based...

I want to add that after three hours the keyboard is quite warm and the area around the touch pad is warm while the area under the right wrist gets uncomfortably warm. Probably raising the notebook with some kind of feet may mitigate the problem, but I can assure you it is a model I would not like t...

ASUS A6U (a.k.a A6000U) noisy!

A friend of mine bought an Asus A6U Sempron 3000 notebook that is currently in my room since I have to install linux on it. I can assure you this is a notebook you should avoid: the fan is noisy and speeds up very often on Windows, while on Linux it is even worst! The hard disk is a FUJITSU MHV2080A...
