Thanks for the explanation guys. I guess my confusion is that using the hitachi feature tool, it does not give me any sound during the test. But during boot it is very loud. 1.) I want to have the option to add DVD, recording etc, although 90% of the time it is for music. I also want to do regular windows tasks sometimes and don't want to wait on a slow HD.

2.) Sorry...I meant RAID 1! Definately not RAID 0.

3.) OK, I will have a look.

2x2.5" raid versus 3.5"

So I just need about 100gb for my main OS drive for a HTPC. It will mostly be just for music so I do not need a lot of storage, but I want it to be very quiet. Would (2) 2.5" quiet drives running in RAID 0, or maybe even (3) of them, give equal or better performance than an averaged 3.5" 7200 rpm dr...

I just got the samsung spinpoint 500gb yesterday and have been "sound testing" it on an external enclosure. So far, it is "OK", but I was hoping it would be a little quieter on seeks. Of course, the enclosure may be causing a lot of noise, but I was still hoping for a little less noise. Going to try...

Honest, I did a search, but just totally confused. It seems a lot of people like the samsung F1, but it may not be available. I will be purchasing through neweggg. Priorites for Home Theater PC: 1. Small laser printer that doesnt curl paper?

I dont know if you noticed...but with the increased speed of laser printers, they tend to curl the paper more than before. I have been trying to find an automatic DUPLEX laser that wont curl them up real bad...especially bad when duplexing. I tried a brother printer and it was pretty bad..not profes...

Best media to backup data?

I am working on research and trying to determine the best method to backup my data. Options: 1 - Internal hard drive (susceptible to failure and lightning) 2 - External hard drive (can be removed so not susceptible to lightning, but can be stolen or damaged in a fire, etc). Not highly portable 3 - F...

I am too impulsive. I ended up just sticking about a half inch of foam down to the case and then I mounted it with those 3M interlocking fasteners (kinda like velcro but better). That way its still very secure, but also very decoupled . And I can install and remove is only a couple seconds.

I dont really want to tinker around, but want something that will really dampen the sound...either elastic support or foam base. I have an SG01 so its a little tight in there. It seems this may be "coil buzz" or "coil whine" after doing some searching. I dont think it will matter if I list all the components...its just something that can occur and is relatively random. I was thinking of giving the enermax liberty 400W a shot and see if I have some luck with that.

Good find....according to that, the core 2 duo certainly does not qualify as requiring the 8 pin connector. So maybe I can still consider the ML01 after all. Still a big question as to whether on not the PSU will be workable from a noise standpoint.

Exactly. I think I can find a graphics card for it...but the PS is a real problem since I dont have many options if its too loud (does this have the 8pin CPU connector). My major concern is heat for a core 2 duo.
