I currently have a MicroATX motherboard with a 300w PSU and Athlon 1800+ (I think) and an IDE drive. The system is too loud and I think costing me too much in electricity bills. So this drive is pretty quiet, I cant hear read/write but I hear like more humm from my system.

They seem to go for $50 new on newegg last I looked, what have you been trying to sell yours for. Mines a Hitachi 7200RPM SATA.

So multiple platters will make it louder correct? or what pros/cons does the numbers of platters have?

I just bought the P7K500 that you linked, hopefully its fast and quiet. Do you know if this is a single platter model?

I am also looking for the same space requirements but also want something fast (7200RPM), any suggestions also looking to spend as little as possible obviously.

Ya the case itself seems to be very quiet, a low hum with the 2 fans, my GeForce 9600 and heatsink, maybe someday ill cut up the case but probably start by replacing the fan and undervolting like you did. How much ohm did you undervolt it with?

I am currently using a 2.5" 80GB Hitachi SATA drive and can hardly ever hear it which I like. I need more storage space though, but I don't need anything more than 300, anything more is nice.

Can anyone recommend something that is going to very quiet like this 2.5" drive for around $50-60?

I have an Antec Three Hundred and use the stock 120mm and 140mm TriCool fans on the slow speed and overall they are fairly quiet.

I have not found the specs for the fans yet, anyone happen to know?
