Looks like that's going to fix one of the problems of tower heatsinks: not enough airflow on the motherboard surface. The orientation allows you to place a fan on the top. :)

No top ventilation hole at all? I wonder if hot air gets trapped in the upper part of the case, especially when using a hot-running gfx card. How does the passively cooled x1600xt fare?

I've seen this kind of behaviour when I'm compiling stuff. Compiling seems to happen faster if you use two threads per cpu (core).

It's *nix, baby! It doesn't rely on what the BIOS reports. :)

You'll want the fan blowing into the heatsink. That way the heatsink will stay cooler.

It's true what they say. You have to soft mount the quiet drive to eliminate the vibrations. I think it actually might even amplify them. :?

[edit] just a thought... maybe having the channel on a minor network makes people not want to go there. how about efnet or undernet?

Some BIOS setups have this nasty habit of polling the keyboard in an infinite loop, which makes the CPU work harder. That's probably what was happening there.

Perhaps, but the question is WHY would it be overheating? You'll find plenty of people here to confirm that the VF-700 is enough to keep even a heavily overclocked system cool. So the more likely scenario is that the HSF wasn't making quite good enough contact. Or the card was defective to begin wi...

The older card (which i RMA'd) didn't have a temperature sensor so I couldn't monitor the temps. However, random freezes and crashes in 3D games should be a good enough hint that the gpu is overheating. This would happen only if I ran the fan at 5V. And I still found the fan a bit noisy at that volt...

Fitting a VF900 on a GeForce 6600GT AGP?

So, I have an old GF 6600GT AGP card and I want to fit a better cooler on it. Originally I had a VF700, but it didn't cool the card too well if i wanted the fan to remain even close to quiet. Some months ago I managed to break the card. I guess it overheated. So I RMA'd it (evil me). Now I'm not sur...

So does this mean that if the HSI chip has it's own cooler the VF900 should fit just fine? That would be great news.

Are you sure those will fit? I'm yet to find a cooler that fits the AGP 6600GT, other than the VF700.

I've played divx just fine on a p2-400. So I see no problem in playing them on a 1GHz CPU.

Maybe you both have temperature controlled fans that start spinning faster under load and reduce hard drive temperatures by generating more airflow inside the case.

Couldn't find a sample, but it sounds like a very high pitched whine.

Some PSUs, for some reason, seem to make buzzing noises when the load is too low or too high. I'm not sure if it's typical for seasonics, though.

Well, to me it looks like the ninja's gonna be a very very tight fit, if its gonna fit at all. You should consider buying a new case. :?

A 120mm fan will not fit in that back panel.
