So i was greedy enough to give it another try and put the p5b-vm and e6300 back inside the case. Still nothing. This thing definitly doesn't go anywhere above 285x7. I don't know if it's the motherboard that sucks (yet it costs more than all of it's competitors!) because my 2gigs of ocz ram rated to...

*sigh* if i knew sooner, i would have tried. But now it's too late, i'm in the middle of exams and even after i don't think i can stand swapping out everything and trying to OC the c2d.
You know, i would have been happier to not know :? ignorance is bliss.

I don't really know, i tried to OC my E6300 and it maxed at around 280 x 7. Not That much more than 266 x 7. I haven't done any research on how to overclock, all i did was to raise the clockspeed of my CPU through the motherboard (asus P5B-VM). Is there more to it than just that?

Wow... thanks Mats, that's good to know. But i guess i'll stay away from any hard modding. Hope some people will make good use of this information, i'd like to see what results it gives! But then it'd be too late for my choice because i've taken appart and reassembled my system too many times to bot...

But this case design needs really long cables and i don't know which PS would have cables as long as the stock ones so i don't know how to replace.

So the lowest multiplier is still 6 and you get 4 speed steppings? Hum... and it'll be socket 775 compatible with the cpus that support the E6x00 core2? Man... now this is tempting. Depending on price. I don't know which system to sell now, my A64 x2 3800+ or the core2.... Ah but wait! I hope intel ...

Yes, i tried undervolting it. The thing is i only get two multipliers to switch from, and intel locked the voltage at 1.162V if i remember correctly, you can't go any lower than that. It's what dissapoints me the most, because i am sure that if i could undervolt it further down, the chip COULD do it...

creaky noise coming from the powersupply when undervolting

I have an nsk2400 case with stock powersupply. I get this creaky high-pitched noise coming from the power-supply when i lower the VID voltage in RMClock. I noticed that the lower the voltage, the faster the cyclic creaking, and it goes proportionally like that from frequent to rare as you go up in v...

I'm wondering too, cause whether you push on one side or pull on the other it should be about the same.

The NT02 seems cool, would you could try using it as a passive tower like the ninja. Take one for the team?
I'd be interested in a short (at least short enough to fit the nsk2400) and stubby tower, larger to compensate for the lack of height. Wonder if anyone knows of one.

WTF indeed my friend, though of the wrong model number. You relax. I'm just trying to help.
But still P5B-VM has the socket really close to the edge of the motherboard and my flower-type 120mm heatsink hangs over the edge by some 2cm. So i'm still not sure if the xp-120 would fit.

My E6300 doesn't overclock over 285MHz FSB, that makes 1995MHz in all. I'm on an P5B-VM too. Good luck to you. As for the heatsink, you don't have a height constrain so i'd go with a tower instead of those horizontal design like the XP-120. For those of us who use desktop boxes, like nsk2400, xp-120...

How much space do you have between the edge of the motherboard and the center of the socket? Processor temp at 52C seems pretty high, what was the ambient temperature, was this under load? I would have hoped at most 45C, ideal would be in the thirties, but i guess with core 2 duo that's not possible.

I'm in a similar situation, except that i've already built both systems. athelon 64 x2 3800+ asus m2npv-vm and core 2 duo e6300 asus p3b-vm I like the athelon better because it undervolts lower while the core 2 duo can't go any lower than 1.162V (hard limited). Undervolted, core 2 idles at around 40...

I don't think they'll get much room with a SI-120. It'll be sucking at the ceiling.
But with all that space under the SI-120 and the SI-128, has anyone tried to put a fan UNDER? A 120mm fan wouldn't fit i guess because of the bars holding the opposite side from the heatpipes.

My athlon x2 3800+ undervolts very well, it's stable at 0.850V at 1000MHz idling at 23C with the stock fans so there aren't many reasons to upgrade unless it's for silence or overclocking. I have an nsk2400 also and i'm thinking of getting a new heatsink for because the stock heatsink is pretty nois...
