You may also want to try Core Temp , which is apparently very accurate. My new ASUS P5B Deluxe reports 44° on my C2D E6600 (with Thermalright XP-90 and Arctic Cooling AF9225 at full speed), but both Core Temp and TAT give 30-33° on the individual cores. ( Hooray for new computer after 5 years! :D...

Perhaps try another utility like Speedfan and see if you get the same thing on Fan 2. Actually, I saw one of the BIOS Updates from ASUS specifically addressed fixing a problem with Chassis Fan #2 showing incorrect information with a low speed fan attached. I guess zero rpms is indeed incorrect. My ...

CPU Temps - Core 2 Duo e6700
My new system has a Core 2 Duo e6700 running at stock speed - no overclocking. The CPU temp measured by the ASUS software PC Probe II, shows the CPU temp at 44* immediately upon coming out of hibernation and then settling down around 47* to 49* at idle. When I do a few "easy" things like surf the In...

ASUS P5B Deluxe - fan is working, but PC Probe says it is no
I recently built my first pc and it has been working just fine. Today I tried putting the assembled unit inside a wooden cabinet with the door left open and the PC Probe software running to see if there was adequate ventilation. The CPU and MB temps went up, so now I know that I need to modify the c...

Before rebuilding the array I'd be checking the HDDs are actually OK. Can you check the SMART status or run a manufacturer utility over them through the controller? You should be able to do this, or at least pull the drives individually into another computer to give them the once-over to ensure you...

RAID 5 degraded - advice on fixing needed
I just finished building a new computer a couple of weeks ago with a RAID 5 array. I am running MS Vista and mostly things have gone fine. But I installed Quick Time and iTunes and when the installation finished, iTunes began scanning my HDD for movies, mp3 files, etc. During this process, I had sev...

Re: New computer-want to setup RAID then install Vista. Prob
Asus says after doing all of the above, I need to go into the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Option ROM Utility by hitting <Ctrl + I>. So I thought that perhaps I could try that, notwithstanding the fact that the BOOTROM choice never showed up in the Bios. I tried hitting <Ctrl + I> until my face res...

Is it the latest BIOS on the motherboard? Oftentimes they ship with a fairly out of date version. I have no idea. But I purchased it on January 9th and the documentation that came with it said that the Onboard Seria-ATA BOOTROM option should show up as soon as the IDE was configured as RAID. Even w...

New computer-want to setup RAID then install Vista. Problems
I just put the finishing touches on my new computer. I had most of the hardware assembled two weeks ago, but needed a second adapter for my 3.5" media card reader - Antec sent me one for free, I got the hardware finished and am ready to go. Last night I got my copy of the new MS Vista O/S - I wanted...

Need drive bay adapter - any retail stores sell them?
I have an Antec Solo case and it came with one 3.5" to 5.25" adapter. Problem is that I have two 3.5" devices. I have been to Frys, CompUSA, and Best Buy but nobody has what I want. I found this online: http://www.provantage.com/datastor-ufb301x~7DTTS02R.htm but I would have to wait several days for...

Installing optical drive w/Asus P5b Deluxe - Q: audio cable?
I am installing an optical drive in my new computer and am not sure what to do about the audio cable. I have read info on a few websites and from what I understand, with WinXP or Vista I could simply leave it off and the signal would run through the IDE cable. But several sites said that the sound w...

Re: New air cooled rig to replace my W/C one
With those requirements, can I make a rig that won't cost me the shirt (no clear budget, but somewhere around 1400$-2200$), and will be more quiet than my watercooled one? For a PSU I'm considering a passive or semi-passive that will only start the fan up when I'm gaming. For a case I would prefer ...

I never mess with the jumpers, at least not with SATA drives. You do have to check the manual to see which are raid ports, many boards have two SATA controllers, one that is connected to the raid controller, and another that is just a normal SATA controller. Thanks. I found the answer here: http://...

You have to setup the raid before you install the OS otherwise it won't work. Anyways the way I setup raid arrays, put both drives in, then go in the BIOS and turn the raid controller on (it's off my default because it slows down boot times). Then during boot up the raid controller will detect the ...

That Y adaptor will run two fans, but I'm not sure that speed sensing would work, since the two tachometer wires are connected to each other. It might be necessary to snip one of them. Question about hooking two fans to the same MB header
I searched the archives and saw an answer to the question of how to hook up two fans to the same MB header. The answer was basically to use a Y-splitter and all three ends have a 3-pin connector of sorts, 2 male and 1 female. http://www.svc.com/3pinyadapter.html But I have the Nexus Real Silent fans...

[quote="jdunning"]I just finished a build with an Antec solo, Asus P5B, E6600, Scythe Ninja, Corsair HX520W and XFX 7950GT. I am building a new system with an Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard and an Intel E6700 CPU. I am not going to overclock so I will be getting PC2 4200 RAM at 533mhz. I thought that I was close to ordering and I go to Newegg.com and then I see lots of different specs on latency and timing. I have Googled a...

Heatsinks - how many are really needed?
I realize this question is too open-ended without some additional info, so here goes. I am going to build a new system with a Core 2 Duo chip (probably E6700) and a good video card (probably GeForce 7950GT). Also, I will be using an Antec Solo case and using the Asus 5B Deluxe motherboard and I am n...

I am planning to build a new system to replace my 6 1/2 year old Dell. I will NOT be overclocking it, I simply want a very fast and very quiet computer. I have read bits-and-pices about memory units.
