I too don't understand how things can be "free" after rebates. Oddly enough, I've never had a single problem so far with any of my rebates and I've bought from a variety of companies: Simple, they don't actually pay the rebates. I've had around a 10% payback rate, myself. I don't shop at places tha...

Linux Support for Cool and Quiet
Cool 'n' Quiet does work on Linux, but you will probably have to configure it. Gooling "cnq linux" or variations seems to bring up a healthy number of hits; exact procedure will probably depend on your distribution. Other spcr posters have done a much better job (than myself) of explaining things: ...

Quiet 60 mm fans?
Don't laugh, but I didn't see it covered elsewhere. I know I'm fighting physics here. I have an AMS Venus external 2-Drive (Oxford Chipset) Enclosure that I hang off my 802.11n (Draft 2) Access Point. It's fast, has built in JBOD,0,1 RAID, well constructed, works great with Linux, Windows, and MacOS...

How I'd Approach building a new Linux Box
Settle on a vendor for your CPU, and troll the Google and Ubuntu forums for chipsets, and see which chipsets are giving people problems, like G965, for example. Newegg is a nice source for lists of the chipset identifiers, if you're not into following every twist and turn of consumer semiconductors....

for: "You really didn't need that data, anyway". Heat and Noise aside, WD's reliability and return policies are notorious. If your needs actually dictate that sort of performance, you'd be better off with a different drive interface, as others have stated. Hard drive manufacturers have spent their R...

Placed an order with them, they were prompt, efficient, and my order even arrived on time.

How to add rootdelay=5 for Ubuntu
Please forgive me for being pedantic, but here are a few warnings: You can easily make your install unusable by mucking around with your boot configuration. If you care about any of the data you have on the computer, back it up beforehand. I'm intentionally leaving some things vague here- if you can...

Has anyone had experience with Mouser Electronics?
Good, bad, or indifferent? They seem to have a large selection of parts, but I haven't seen them mentioned here or at least, they didn't turn up in the search. I've googled for opinions in the past, but with the amount of shilling that goes on with online rating services these days, I'm not sure if ...

I'm using a Nexus AXP-3200 on my 1.2GHz Celeron/ASUS TUV4X: I purchased a plastic duct adapter, and have a Nexus 120 mm fan blowing air down through the aluminum fins. (The original fan isn't that great and is fairly loud.) There are pictures of the AXP-3200 on EndPCNoise: www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin...
